From some FAQ somewhere...

The Great Jimmy Buffett (1994)
Original CD: Goldies label (Intermusic S.A.) DISC NO: GLD 63166. Portugese CD which is basically A White Sport Coat And A Pink Crustacean, plus three tracks from Living and Dying In 3/4 Time: "Ringling, Ringling," "Brand New Country Star," and "God's Own Drunk." The artwork is a little wacky. It feartures a lime green background with a black-and-white photo of Buffett in his long-hair, gold necklace, handle bar-mustache days.
Eleven longhaired friends of Jesus in a chartreuse microbus...

I picked this one up quite a few years back. I believe it was listed as an import. Good old stuff on it.

Seeing that makes me wonder how long it'll be before we see Buffett receive the "Essential" treatment as so many other artists like Cash, SRV, Santana, Dylan, Willie, etc. have as of late. For the most part, I think the compilers have done a really good job so it'll be interesting to see what they come up with for an Essential Buffett collection.

Funny thing...I had never seen that compilation until today when I stopped at the Exclusive Company. They had that one and another I had never seen...

There already is an Essential Buffett Collection (although its not called The Essential Jimmy Buffett) .. . .Meet Me In Margaritaville. I dont think they'll make an Essential Buffett for a long time considering that MMIM is pretty much an essential buffett, and also his career is on a rise so they'll probably make one when it comes back "down"

I don't think it matters to the people that put out the "Essential" collections that Meet Me In Margaritaville is already available. The majority of artists that have received the Essential treatment already have very comprehensive collections of their work on the market so that isn't stopping them. I also don't think an artist's current career arc has anything to do with when they choose to release the Essential compilations, at least judging from the Essential releases from the last year. Willie Nelson's was one of those and his career is not waning in the least. I'm sure Buffett will have his own "Essential" collection soon enough. Like I said, it appears just about everyone else has.

yeah but willie isn't anywhere near the top of his game, that was a long time ago . .. some could argue that buffett is sort of on an incline to his 2nd peak, so to say, so i think they'd wait for more hits to come from LTC and the following albums before they let out an Essential Buffett

If you take notice as to what artists have recieved the "Essential" treatment so far I don't think it has anything to do with the current success (or lack thereof) any of the artists are enjoying so an Essential Buffett could come at any time.
