Buffett performs at Wharfside Bar & Grill

From HamptonRoads.com: “Jimmy Buffett plays for Wharfside patrons in Virginia Beach

We called Wharfside to get a few details, and here’s the story we heard from Alex Adams, manager; and Dave Maglicco, operations manager, executive chef and part owner of Wharfside:

On Friday, Buffett (in town for a show at the Farm Bureau Live amphitheater on Saturday) stopped in for dinner. It didn’t take long before people started to notice Buffett and ask for autographs. Before anyone became too antsy, Adams told the singer that he wasn’t sure how long he could keep the singer’s presence under wraps.

According to Adams, that’s when Buffett introduced himself. And that’s when Adams told Buffett he had met the singer long ago when Buffett played Ocean Eddie’s. Adams went to the show with his uncle Donald.

Regardless, as a hat tip to uncle Donald and in trade for his meal, Buffett offered to play a few songs. Adams accepted. He was going to give Buffett the meal for free anyway.

Local musician Darrell Hawkins, who happened to be at the restaurant to entertain a private party, had a guitar for Buffett to borrow. It was a customized guitar that Buffett found a little difficult to play. But after breaking a string once, Buffett seemed to get the hang of it and played four or five songs.
