Examiner.com has a review of Tuesdays show: “Jimmy Buffett 2013 tour stops in Atlanta and plays Songs from St. Somewhere (Photos)”
Jimmy Buffett played just the second date of his 2013 tour Tuesday night at Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta, Georgia. This year’s edition is called the Songs from St. Somewhere tour and new songs from the upcoming CD of the same name featured prominently in the set list and were interspersed with some older Buffett songs and some covers. Playing for more than two hours Buffett demonstrated why he is one of the most enduring and iconic American popular singers of the last half century.
Jimmy Buffett has toured every summer for the last forty years and despite his amazing commercial success through his songs and his Margaritaville brand there’s no complacency and no going through the motions; he still comes on stage (barefoot) with a genuine enthusiasm, engages his band, engages the audience and has a genuinely good time doing it!
That’s why there’s no nostalgia about a Jimmy Buffett tour. Nostalgia would suggest that he’s living off the memory of better times but, unlike a few corporate bands who are doing exactly that in 2013, Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band continue to entertain a crowd with new songs and fresh looks at some old songs. Of course the band gave their nod to “The Big 8” but there was enough new material that is very good and some relatively new covers that kept the setlist fresh and the crowd eagerly anticipating what was coming next.
