Margaritaville Nashville to get Historic Commission OK

From the The Tennessean: “Metro staff recommending approval of Margaritaville design

A Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville Cafe planned for Lower Broadway should be allowed to open the storefront windows in its historic building, the staff of the Metro Historic Zoning Commission is recommending.

The windows and signs proposed by Margaritaville’s developers should be approved with conditions, the staff said in materials posted online in advance of the commission’s April 21 meeting.

Developers and historic preservationists have been at odds over the Margaritaville plan for the past few weeks. Local developers plan to invest $10 million at the building that previously housed Global Cafe at 322 Broadway.

“We’re cautiously optimistic that common sense will rule the day,” developer Mark Bloom said today. “There’s been a lot of give on both sides. They’ve made a really concerted effort to be flexible.”
