McGuane: "But I’m different than a lot of other writers, in that I have other ways of making a living. I remember something that Jimmy Buffett said once, when he became a rocker, that the day of the singer-songwriter is gone. I think that carries over into literature, too. Publishing used to be committed to literature, but those boundaries have blurred into entertainment — publishers want to make that money, too."
