Jimmy in Cuba

Jimmy Buffett flew his own pontoon plane — Air Margarita One — into Guantanamo Bay Navy Base on Friday and entertained the troops Saturday night. “Wait a minute! This isn’t Miami. I’m tricked,” said Buffett, as he climbed onto a pier in shorts and a T-shirt to a welcome from base officials and several dozen so-called Parrotheads, mostly Navy wives. Buffett, 55, brought the first seaplane to land here since 1973 and will be followed Saturday by his 90-foot yacht, the Margaritaville. Rather than ferry along his full 15-member band, he came only with a percussionist, his guitar, fishing poles, surf board and a laptop computer on which he is tapping out his third novel, “A Salty Piece of Land,” set in the fictional lower Bahamas island of Cayo Loco. He predicted it will be finished by the end of the year.
