From Marc: I received a phone call this past Friday from the a producer for “Meet The Press“. Turns our Dick Armey, a big Republican Congressman from Texas was scheduled to be on the show last Sunday morning. They (Meet The Press) found out Armey was a big Buffett fan and sports one of my “Jimmy Buffett for President” bumper sticker on his vehicle. The producer asked me for one of my bumper stickers so I E-mailed them a JPG and written permission to use it. Of course I granted it. Anyway, my bumper sticker made it on Meet The Press for a whopping 5 seconds or so, along with some humorous dialogue about Buffett and Margaritaville
MR. RUSSERT: You’re doing a collection of the greatest hits of Dick Armey, your favorite songs. This man let me show you a bumper sticker that’s on your red pickup truck,”Jimmy Buffett For President.”
REP. ARMEY: Yeah.
MR. RUSSERT: Won’t allow you to use one of his songs because he disagrees with you politically. Is that bumper sticker coming off?
REP. ARMEY: Yeah, Jimmy broke my heart on that deal. I just shut down his Texas campaign for president. I know he’ll have to get somebody else to pick it up. But I can’t tell you how it hurt me. I’m staying away from Margaritaville from now on. Jimmy, I’m telling ya, we’re over. You know, I don’t know what to say. Here I’ve been such a loyal supporter for Jimmy’s presidential campaign.
