Equal Strain on All Parts Released
Love the new album. My favorite songs besides Bubbles Up are Ti Punch Cafe and Close Calls. Both just make me smile! The album reminds me alot of FSOTW. What are your thoughts?

I haven't listened yet. I think I might wait and do the listening party. Not sure, though.

Re: Equal Strain on All Parts Released
Anyone else pre-order the album the moment you could and still have not received it yet? I was told it may ship out to me next week….after we were told it would ship before or on November 3rd.
I was really looking forward to having a moment today and listening to Equal front to back. All I have listen to is Bubbles Up so as not to ruin Christmas.
Missing Jimmy so much.
Phins up ya all.

Re: Equal Strain on All Parts Released
I pre-ordered the Vinyl and CD from Mailboat a week or two after it was announced and had radio silence through most of yesterday. I started seeing people on FB comment that their Amazon pre-orders are now expected to ship late november, so last night I decided to wait a few weeks and then email Mailboat inquiring on the status.Phinn wrote: ↑November 3, 2023 9:43 am Anyone else pre-order the album the moment you could and still have not received it yet? Wouldn't you know it, late last night I received a shipment email from Mailboat and they should arrive Tuesday.
Pretty sure the demand for this exceeded expectations for obvious reasons, and the fulfillment companies may be playing a bit of catch-up.

Yes, I am sure there is an uptick in that preorder. I saw a few weeks ago the CD was listed as sold out on Mailboat. That was removed a like a day later.
I guess Jimmy left me with lots to listen to while I wait.
Off to a full listen of Farside!

I preordered it on Sept. 8 and got a confirmation email from Mailboat the same day. After that, I had no communication from Mailboat until Tuesday (Oct. 31), when they sent me another email saying my order had shipped. I got the CD in yesterday's mail.

I've only listened to it once so this may change, except for my least favorite song. I don't care that Paul McCartney plays bass on My Gummie Just Kicked In but that's this year's Too Drunk To Karaoke, the skip button will get a workout. I don't like Fish p*** either. Johnny's Rhum and Mozambique are my 2 favorities.

I agree with you. I dislike those two songs as well. I do like Johnny's Rhum too!LIPH wrote: ↑November 3, 2023 10:14 amI've only listened to it once so this may change, except for my least favorite song. I love "Ti Punch" that is a song that takes me away and back again. Feels like a vacation. "Portugal or PEII" also does that for me.

First listen through that one stood out for me also.
Re: Equal Strain on All Parts Released
I listened to the album on Amazon music at midnight. I'm going to wait for my CD to make my decision if I like it. Streaming on a blue tooth speaker the size of my hand doesn't do justice to the music.

Re: Equal Strain on All Parts Released
I took the dog for a walk and listened at noon eastern, because why not?
Standouts for me are University of Bourbon Street, Bubbles Up (obviously), Ti Punch Cafe, Johnny's Rhum.
Songs likely to get skipped for me are My Gummie Just Kicked In and Fish p***.
Most of the rest are solidly average, as is usually the case, for all artists.

Said this on Twitter:
Equal Strain on All Parts impression? Sure. I’ll try.
University of Bourbon Street made me dance.
Bubbles Up made me cry.
Audience of One made me smile with “standing ovation from a wagging tail.”
My Gummie Just Kicked In was meh for me.
I enjoyed “I don’t always use my brain” in Close Calls.
Equal Strain on All Parts hurt a bit. It felt very Captain and the Kid.
Like My Dog was fun. The fact it played when I was taking a selfie with Jade was great.
Ti Punch Cafe made my Francophile heart sing. And all the references to other songs were great.
Portugal Or PEI felt solidly Schoolboy Heart. And I like Schoolboy Heart.
Nobody Works on Fridays gets points for “maybe stumble on across a job that sucks less” and the fact that I was off today.
Fish p*** is...meh. There’s always one. (Two for me on this album with Gummie being the other.) But I like that it has a happy ending!
Johnny’s Rhum. I liked this one. Seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I like it. Might be my Francophile kicking in again. EDIT: listened to this one again, and yeah...it's great. I also misread something. I'm not alone in this after all.
Columbus is baffling to me at this point. I’ll have to relisten. I know it’s a cover and a previously cut song, but I don’t get it.
Mozambique was a sweet little bit of typical Jimmy.
And that’s that. Solid album with some highs (Bubbles Up, University of Bourbon Street, likely Johnny’s Rhum for me), some lows (Gummie, Fish p***, likely Columbus for me), and several solidly in between.
So it’s like the man said: you take the good with the bad and be glad to have every word.
It was a good morning.

Re: Equal Strain on All Parts Released
Gummie and Fish p*** are my least favs but I will say Gummie is still WAY better than Too Drunk to Karaoke. Listened to Mac and Mr. Utley discuss the album as they played through it on RM. That was pretty great. There are very few albums any artist puts out where every song is a winner. But I do enjoy the stories behind the songs so sometimes learning that makes me a bit more tolerant of some of them.
It was too much tequila . . . . or not quite enough.

I am currently listening for the 3rd time today.
It is just SO wonderful hearing Mike & Mac explaining the process and the back stories.
By the time my order arrives (either Monday or Tuesday) I will probably have the songs memorized!

Re: Equal Strain on All Parts Released
Hi all,
Thank you for the postings and song reviews. Looking forward to listening to the new songs on vinyl when arriving next week.
Would LOVE to hear Mike and Mac's stories too from the recording sessions. Does anyone happen to have a link or know where we can catch a replay if we missed the original RM broadcast? Also, was there anything in particular from a story or two that stands out?
Thank you!

Oh, wow! Thanks! I haven't been able to listen to that yet, and I work thirteen hour shifts today (just finished), tomorrow, and Monday, so having it later in the week really helps.

Re: Equal Strain on All Parts Released
Columbus threw me for a loop. I was relieved to learn it was a cover. Maybe it would have been better on FSOTW.
University, Ti Punch, Johnny's Rhum and Bubbles Up are wonderful. The others will likely all grow on me.
