I’ve not been to Summerfest before. Assuming he’s feeling good to go on July 6th, is it a venue/experience worth grabbing tickets? I know nothing will match the tailgating experience at Alpine.

No tailgating.

But it's an amazing day of live music. A dozen stages. Worth it, yes. But not a normal Parrothead experience

This Alpine fan is sad, but I'm skeptical if the Sunmerfest show will happen on 7/6. Also, as a Chicagoian, getting up to Milwaukee on a Thursday will he rough!

Yeah, not loving a Thursday show. Could make for a fun LONG weekend with the Cubs in town, but with this late notice that’s tough to schedule. I’m also not sure he’s ready to go 7/6.

Common sense tells me that JB won't be playing anywhere until at least August. He's 76 and has been hospitalized twice in less than a year.

If I knew 100% that this wasn't going to be his last show in this area, there is no way I'd take off to see him in downtown Milwaukee on a Thursday night. But I can't see this going on after this year, so I'll probably buy tix and burn 2 days of vacay to make it happen. Best case would be to find a bar that has a "tailgate" going on, and offers a shuttle there and back. Just wanted one more show at Alpine to sorta say my goodbyes to both Jimmy, and the memories made there tailgating.

So . . . did someone f*** up or is the event really happening? Casual fans are planning to go. Booking travel arrangements and hotels. I’d say very few fans are as aware of all things Jimmy as those here on BN and/or those connected to a club.

Did someone from the event put this on the calendar not realizing Jimmy was just in the hospital? Does Jimmy’s management not realize this event is expected happen? Is there a reason no one from either camp is actually communicating anything?

We have to assume the show is a go, right?

I could see a senerio like the Atlanta show where the onsale is postponed and the show never happens.

100% agreed. Maybe as of the time of this post Jimmy truly intends to play. I just wish someone involved would communicate something. Even if it isn’t a guarantee one way or the other.

If this actually happens, yes, Summerfest is a great place to see Jimmy. While there is no tailgating, the grounds are right on Lake Michigan and there is plenty of food and drink with multiple stages offering a variety of music all day long. The Marcus Amphitheater (it will ALWAYS be the Marcus) has good acoustics and is typical of a large outdoor venue with the lake immediately behind the lawn. We saw Jimmy (and other acts like ZZ Top, Don Henley, Zac Brown and others) over the years here. While not as large as Alpine and no tailgating, I would take Jimmy at Summerfest over any Chicago venue that is currently available.

Good luck from Kalamazoo. I'll hold out for a smaller venue and allow JB time to be ready to play and sing with us. My thoughts are with him. Not myself. But yah, I've been to 30 of his shows. Finzup, have a fun summer

Given the fact that Buffett never played Summerfest, what do we think the chances are of an Alpine show in August?

I can't imagine that Alpine would really open for only 2 shows this summer
2012 - Chicago (Tinley Park)
2013 - Alpine Valley
2014 - Alpine Valley
2015 - Alpine Valley
2016 - Alpine Valley
2017 - Chicago (Wrigley Field)

Alpine unfortunately has had that few shows in the past.

It's annoying that a sales rep lied to me and said Alpine was having 6 shows.
