Got my rooms at the Holiday Inn... first time we're doing this, usually we just go home.
I hope the lots open earlier....

I wouldn't get my hopes up, last year was supposed to open up around 2 or so it seems, and they were ready to let us all in early but then a storm rolled through and we had to wait it out. Ended up staying the tailgate right around the 2 or 3:00 mark they said it would start. Although it would be amazing if they could open up around 8am like the good ol' days @ Toyota Park.

Not sure what entrance you were at. We were well in the lots when the storm rolled through. In fact, we have great pictures of us huddled inside our canopy.BoatBeachBarBallad50 wrote:I wouldn't get my hopes up, last year was supposed to open up around 2 or so it seems, and they were ready to let us all in early but then a storm rolled through and we had to wait it out. We were pre-partying @ the Odyssey Sweet Spot. They are about to let us in early but the 1st storm came through. We waited the storm out and then they let us in. Another storm rolled through like an hour before the show and that's when we were playing in the rain while everyone else huddled under tents.
Which entrance did you go to and what time did they let you in?

You know, now that you mention it, we were in the venue a long time before the storm came in. We were still at the hotel when the first one rolled through.BoatBeachBarBallad50 wrote:We were pre-partying @ the Odyssey Sweet Spot. Sorry. Way too many drinks that day I guess.

We got 4 rooms both at the Holiday Inn in Matteson and the La Quinta in Tinley Park. Is anyone else staying at either of these? Where is everyone else staying?
We stayed at the Holiday Inn last year in Tinley Park and they were beyond rude; we wont go back there and they were much more expensive as well!!

Be aware, the mall that was by this Holiday Inn... (Lincoln Mall) is now closed down) In case you wanted to do some shopping.

If you plan on going anywhere at nighttime, around the mall.... Try to have at least one sober person with you, for the reason also being, that that area is not the safest anymore.

Matteson can be a culture shock if you're not prepared for it. Not bad, just different. Just know what to expect.

Different, how?
Would you recommend staying at La Quinta in Tinley Park instead??

Some areas not safe. I've stayed in the Hampton Inn many times. It's fine over there, and they have an absolutely wonderful staff. However, they are out of rooms that weekend... at least the last time I looked.phisig23 wrote:Different, how?

Matteson is very diverse, both economically and culturally. That's all.
If I were you, I'd stay in Tinley just because it's closer.

I would highly recommend NOT stopping in any bar in the village of Matteson. Its actually pronounced Mat-a-son do not call it mattson. Just can get a lil shady. If you are going to drink, I would recommend drinking anywhere west of Oak Park Ave.

Yeah, but everyone says "Matt-sin," so it's not like you'd be out of place.Nighthawk wrote:I would highly recommend NOT stopping in any bar in the village of Matteson. Re: Who's Going to Chicago/Tinley Park June 27th, 2015?
Since it looks like there is no show in Indy we got tickets to the Chicago show. I have been to Chicago one other time for JB but it was at Toyota Park. What do I need to know about Tinley? Tailgating?? Any advice would be great.

You will be sadly disappointed if you expect the tailgate experience you got @ Toyota Park. Tinley doesn't normally allow tailgating at all, but they make an exception for the Parrotheads and open mid afternoon some time. They have far too few restrooms for the amount of people who are there, so get ready to hold it til it hurts or wait in lots of lines. Other than that, same ol' same ol'

That is good to know. We may just drive up that morning. Are there any night before events?

A few years ago there was a Buffett cover band playing @ the Margaritaville on Navy Pier and another one further down the pier @ the beer garden, but that was when the show was @ Northerly Island. It's always best to do a night or 3 downtown before the show.
