Being in Nashville, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few special guests.

Jackson Browne is a opening, no one kid themselves about it. Lionel richie had people come in early cause it was Detroit and Motown.
Browne will be singing to half empty seats.
I would totally be down with a co-headlining tour with Zac or Kenny

Re: A Prediction for the New Tour
I'd much rather see a Buffett and Browne bill than a Zac Brown/Buffett or Chesney/Buffett bill. Then again I ascribe to the belief that Todd Snider is more of an heir to the Buffett throne than Chesney which helps explain why there's such a huge disconnect between myself and the average Buffett fan. That's not a criticism by the way, just an observation.

I would love to see a Todd snider show! I also wouldn't mind seeing him do a show with John hiatt or Jerry Jeff walker. It is these type of artists that I associate buffett with more.Tiki Torches wrote:I'd much rather see a Buffett and Browne bill than a Zac Brown/Buffett or Chesney/Buffett bill. Heard last evening on Radio Margaritaville that indeed, Mishka is "opening" for Jimmy and the Reefers in Nashville. It must be true.

Re: A Prediction for the New Tour
My sources tell me Ilo fell from graces with Jimmy. As for Matt he was in Pensacola. He is currently touring all the M'villes and will be at the Key West song writers fest. He is busy playing about 4 nights a week. Matt is out trying to sell a record. That's something Ilo did not do or did very poorly.jbfinscj wrote:Poor Ilo, all but forgotten about. If either Zac Brown or Chesney went on the road with Buffett I'd most likely sit that out. I realize there are people who think Brown is the greatest thing since chocolate milk but I'm not a fan at all. Chesney I can take or leave, I've seen him once and I thought he was good but I don't think I'd travel to see him. I've seen Todd Snider several times and he's really good.jbfinscj wrote:I would love to see a Todd snider show! I also wouldn't mind seeing him do a show with John hiatt or Jerry Jeff walker. Re: A Prediction for the New Tour
Yeah I don't get the love for zac brown. I own his cd's and have seen him twice (my wife wanted to see him). If I remember correctly Sarah wanted to leave both shows before they ended. He is more of a jam band live, which I'm not a huge fan of. I enjoy his songs on the radio, but not enough to put his songs on my iPod. Now to contradict myself I enjoyed the cmt crossroads and though their version of free/into the mystic was incredible....so I lied I have that show on my iPod.LIPH wrote:If either Zac Brown or Chesney went on the road with Buffett I'd most likely sit that out. I have the CMT show and a handful of ZBB songs on my iPod, but I don't own any of his albums, I cherry picked single songs from iTunes or Amazon or whatever.

Re: A Prediction for the New Tour
Same here. I love Buffett's potent mix of musical styles, especially on the early records but I have zero interest in "Trop Rock". I would be lying if I said it was Buffett's songwriting alone that initially drew me to his early albums back in the 70's but I tend to associate that with him more strongly than steel pans, cheap Hawaiian shirts, coconut bras, etc. I know plenty of his fans love that and I mean absolutely no offense to them but give me songwriting Buffett over spectacle/Broadway show Buffett any day of the week.jbfinscj wrote:I would love to see a Todd snider show! Agreed! The only "trop rock" artists Iisten to are Scott Kirby and John frinzi. I think the genre as a whole all sounds the same. I don't even think it's fair to call frinzi and Kirby "trop rock"Tiki Torches wrote:Same here. Re: A Prediction for the New Tour
I had tickets last year to a private show earlier this year in Orlando. I was hoping it would be a solo acoustic show, or just a show with Mac. It turned out he brought the full band. I ended up not going and was glad I didn't. It was identical to the show I saw him do in Jacksonville two nights prior.jbfinscj wrote:Agreed! Re: A Prediction for the New Tour
The BEST show I've ever seen was JJW and JB at Jerry Jeff's 60th BDB at the Paramount. Still love listening to that show from Radio Margaritaville.
I really enjoyed being at the Texas Stadium show with George Strait and Alan Jackson with Jimmy too.
Looking forward to Jackson Browne opening for Jimmy too...if that's what you call it. Hope he does a good hour.

One of my favorite Buffett performances is when he and "Fingers" were on Texas Connection on TNN with Jerry Jeff (who was host), far away from all of the Parrothead trappings. Again, no offense intended, it's just my own personal preference.

Re: A Prediction for the New Tour
I like Matt Hoggatt and have his album. I like Ilo and have his as well. I bought the new Mishka album and I also enjoy it. However, we like Ilo's the best. I enjoyed Ilo the two times I saw him at Buffett shows in Houston. I also realize that he likely doesn't have much appeal outside the Buffett fandom, so if he has fallen out of "Buffett's good graces" then Jimmy needs to get over it.
Point is that most of us would have never heard of any of these artist if Jimmy had not introduced them to us. And I thank him for that. However, it is good to change the "opening-introductory" artist from year to year. So I don't want to see Ilo every year. Someone new every year or so is cool!
With that being said, I have no interest in seeing Jackson Browne in Austin as an opener. Was either Robert Earl Keen or Todd Snider too busy? The only reason I'm going early enough to see Jackson Browne is so I can get at the front of the lawn, since I have heard the lawn is flat with no rise, and that this new venue in Austin blows goats in general. (Why no Woodlands show?)
I have been following JB for 20 years now, since I was in college. I wish I could see him at an acoustic show without the crowd spectacle that he has, but I realize that probably won't happen unless he defies all odds and shows up in Corpus Christi someday. I'm happy with his carnival style shows because I enjoy them. Someday he won't play anymore and we will long for the days. Let's enjoy it while we can.

I'd put down money that he will cover "please come to boston" for one of first few nights of the tour. Quite possibly Nashville
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

Re: A Prediction for the New Tour
I know Jackson has no direct ties to Austin (same for Todd Snider) but I imagine it goes back to what was mentioned in a previous discussion about this bill, Buffett and Jackson Browne have a history in that they performed several shows together back in the 70's. Buffett was also an opener for the Eagles, which Jackson has many ties to. I know it's hard for those that came onboard post-Parrothead phenomenon to grasp but there was a time when Buffett was primarily known as a songwriter, not "the Mayor of Margaritaville". I'm sure others don't share my enthusiasm about this pairing but I think it's a very refreshing thing to see. I'd love to see Buffett do more of this sort of thing in the years to come, especially as his life as a touring musician begins to wind down. It might even motivate me to see him in concert again after all of these years.Bucarader wrote:With that being said, I have no interest in seeing Jackson Browne in Austin as an opener.
