If there was ever a breakthrough album to define an artist's refusal to go quietly, this is IT. From beginning to end this disc grabs you in one way or another. "The Great Filling Station Holdup" and "Peanut Butter Conspiracy" are great country rockers that put you right in the middle of the action. "My Lovely Lady" will send you through those Tennessee hills and on down to the Florida keys faster than you can fall down and if you close your eyes "Cuban Crime of Passion" will take you back to the glory days of that forbidden island 90 miles beyond the "southern most point". If you've seen Robert Redford in the movie "Havana", you know what i'm talking about. The ballads each touch you in their own special ways, but there's that "one" song, the one that started all the controversy, that, when performed live, has been sliced, diced, hashed, and rehashed more than any other. "Why Don't We Get Drunk" has always been the perfect song for that special someone in your life and became an early anthem for what would eventually become a Buffett phan.
a perfect score of 5 coronas

Not a perfect Jimmy Buffett album (a bit heavy on the country sound) but still a rather nice one.
"The Great Filling Station Holdup", "Peanut Butter Conspiracy", and "Why Don't We Get Drunk..." all have a thick country sound to them, but are also humorous and lighthearted, which make them so enjoyable. The second song mentioned has a quick, snappy beat that matches the excitement of the antics that make up the lyrics. "Railroad Lady" is slower and more like a traditional country song.
The rest of the songs lean more toward the "ocean sound". The pedal-steel guitar on the album's version of "Grapefruit Juicy Fruit" is strongly reminiscient of Hawaiian music. "He Went to Paris", "My Lovely Lady", and "I Have Found Me a Home" all sound like songs from AIA (perhaps the most visual ocean/beach album).
Rounding out the collection are the excellent "Cuban Crime of Passion", "They Don't Dance Like Carmen No More" and the quiet, reflective "Death of an Unpopular Poet".

You know the discussion he has on You Had to Be There about making Purple Passions and how she can't taste the alcohol and then he says "That's the plan, baby, that's the plan ... What we don't drink, I'm gonna pour on ya... I love that part and its been one of my favorite SYKBH ever since. Not that anyone asked.
