It's Hockey time. There are 16 teams playing. How about that?

What about a smaller tourney with all the Albums going against each other.

Just an idea to keep my mind off the snow........

How about if you had a series of "Conference Championship Tourneys" consisting of all songs on any particular album. Then you take the say top 2 or 3 songs off each album and enter them in a Grand Tourney. This will allow obscure songs, if BNers want it to, to make the cut even if they are not often or ever performed live. Of course much of Jimmy's appeal is live shows but it's the depth and variety in the songs on his albums that always struck a chord with me atleast. This way we can honor those songs as well.

I thought the tourney was a great time and alot of fun. Thanks for doing it!

Thanx for putting it all together - it was a hoot! [smilie=coolup.gif]

A most mysterious calling harbour
So far, but yet, so near
Where I see the day
When my hair's full gray
and I finally...disappear. BUT NOT YET!!

I thought it was a great idea, thanks for doing all the work!

My only suggestions would be shake up the seeding and song selections a little. I like the idea of a selection "committee".

Maybe pick 16 albums and 4 songs off each and set it up that way.

Thanks for doing this! It was great fun! I kind of like the idea of having albums go up against each other.

Thanks for running this - it was a blast!

You are probably right in assuming that the end results would be the same next year, but there might be some differences in the early rounds with different match-ups. I'm guessing OPH would battle APLAF in the finals, but I know that OPH knocked out a lot of great songs along the way (it had a tough road). Maybe some of those songs would have done some more damage in a different bracket?

I like the cover songs in there! Brown-eyed girl, Southern Cross and Scarlet Begonias are great! Jimmy puts his own touches on these songs and that's part of why they're special. But if the tourney is to determine "Jimmy's" best song, then I can see why we shouldn't include these songs.

Thanks again!

Thanks for this. It was great. I was trying to think of a way that would keep OPH and APLAF in the final, but I don't see that happening unless you leave them out.

But what about 4 brackets of 70's, 80's, 90's, and 2000's. You can hear the progression through the years in Jimmy's music and it seems so many people like so many different "era's" of his music, we could at least find out his most popular song from each decade.

At least find a way to get Tin Cup Chalice and The Wino and I Know in there and I will be perfectly happy

Just a thought

This was a lot of fun. Of course there will always be songs that I would have included instead of others and I'm sure mine would be different than someone elses. Overall it was an excellent idea and we thank you for putting it together. I wonder if you'll have a different winner in future years. I kind of doubt it. I know for me, the best song won and will win in future years. If you changed up some of the lower seeds, you might knock off a few more popular but I would think it would end up pretty much the same. I also wonder if we do it again if people won't vote for the upset just to vote for it and not because they really like it better. The NIT idea sounds good for all of the more obscure favorites.

A few months ago, I did a survey that helped me identify the most popular Buffett songs among BNers. If you'd like I could get those results to you, we could use those as your starting point for a tourney, instead of the other method.

Or....do his entire catalog, add a couple rounds, use the SPLTM list for seeding only?

You could probably do a complete 64 song tournament for each decade (may have to get creative with the 2000s, maybe add the soundtrack stuff in there).

The entire catalog idea might take forever, and I'd only use songs on studio and live albums, but it might work. The only problem is that the results would be about the same in the end.

Thanks so much for doing this, it really is great fun!

I'd go with several of the suggestions, such as NIT, or songs that Jimmy wrote. I, too, am so very tired of BEG.
