Silver Airways

Post by tailgaitingph »

Hope this is the correct topic area...

Wondering if any of y'all have ever flown with this airline?
Looking at a flight from KW to Tampa. It's non-stop and almost too cheap to be true so I wanted to reach out to my peeps.
Any reviews - good, bad or ugly?
Any and all info is appreciated, thanks!

Hi

The low price is really all they have. My job takes me to KW a few times a year and honestly if everything works the flight is great and the price awesome. Most of the time though, they have some issue that cancels the flight. Weather, mechanical, no pilot, too much weight for the little plane size. You name it and they have used it as a reason to cancel. Once it’s cancelled, very hard to get rebooked or refunded. We always always have a plan B. Either the boat to Fort Myers or just a rental car. If you are on Island time though, they worth trying but I do believe I have been canceled more times than flown. 😃

Last time flown was September 2019. Nothing since then.

I'd recommend driving up to Tampa if this is your first time making the trip. There can be a lot of traffic but its well worth making the drive at least once up the Keys and then across the Tamiami Trail. Old Florida is disappearing fast but this is still a little window into the Past. It takes us anywhere 8 to 10 hours driving depending on stops, traffic and such and we are about 40 minutes south of Tampa downtown.

If you have made the drive, take the Ferry.

This is awesome too.

I've been to KW several times & even got married there. Hoping for a few days there before making the trip north. Friends that I would be visiting are actually near Sarasota. If plans work out, I'll only be there for a few days also so I want to get there as quickly as I can.

I just saw that Silver is pulling out of KW. Also, United. When it happens I'm not sure. Due to budget cuts. Most Airlines listed 5 destinations, that they won't be flying to.

Thanks for the info Tommy!

I've just searched again for flights & Trip advisor shows a flight through United but operated by Silver Airways??
Is this normal?

Yes. That shows they are contracted thru United and not as a direct service as Tommy said. Silver has done that a lot. Even though they are Partnering with United, they still provide the same level of Island time service.

Sorry, for some reason didn't see this when you posted it. I'm pretty flexible but don't want to have to scramble at the last min for a flight (or car if flight falls through). Think I'll just go with 1 of the big guys.

Thank you all for the info!
