Re: Photo Op!!
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans did a "Cubs-a-Palooza" promotion this weekend. Friday night they had the Cubs 2016 World Series Trophy on display. I'm not a Cubs fan but part of the deal if you bought the 3 game package was an opportunity to have your picture taken with the trophy.
Hall of Famer Andre Dawson was also there signing autographs. He has very nice handwriting.
Saturday night, Bill Buckner was there. I've been a Mets fan since the beginning when they were an expansion team in 1962 but I resisted the urge to thank him for making the error in the 1986 World Series when he was playing for the Red Sox.
Tonight the Pelicans were supposed to wear "Cubstock" jerseys in the game and they were going to be auctioned off to raise money for charity. I had already placed a bid on one but the game was rained out. Word is, they're going to wear them in another game later in the season but they haven't decided when.
Before Saturday night's game started, I was standing down the right field line where the Pelicans players come out of the clubhouse to go to the dugout. They publish a new program for each home stand and there's a different player's picture on the cover of each issue. The All Star Game was last Tuesday and the Pelicans had 5 players on the Southern Division All Star team (a 6th player was added 2 days before the game). There's a group picture of the original 5 on the current program so I was trying to get their autographs. There was a guy there wearing a Lynchbug Hillcats cap, another team in the Carolina League. Last year they had a catcher named Francisco Mejia who had a 50 game hitting streak. I mentioned Mejia when I was talking to the guy. He had a backpack with him, he reached inside and took out a Hillcats program with a picture of Mejia on the cover. It was autographed. I thought he was just showing it to me so I went to give it back to him. He told me to keep it, he had about a dozen of them.

Fishy selfie fail. With the steelhead played out, I waded ashore, drove my wading staff into the sand, took off my pack, pulled the camera out and attached it to the staff and set the timer. All this time I still have a five pound trout attached to my rod, so all prep is done one handed. I grab the fish, hit the button and step back. I set the timer for 2 seconds instead of 10. The shot went as the fish flopped. The trout was released.

The Vegas Golden Knights don't issue paper tickets. When you get inside the arena you swipe the credit card you used to buy the ticket and they give you a seat locater.
I should have stayed outside a little longer, they have a drumline and cheerleaders in the plaza outside the arena.
I like their logo, it's simple but it looks good. Although it would look better without the red line at center ice through the middle of it.
This was floating around the arena before the game started.
There's a "castle" inside the arena. The drumline sets up in front of the castle once the game starts.

That was projected on the ice before the game started, I don't know what its supposed to be.
That's a map with the logos of the other 30 teams in the NHL.
Excalibur stuck in the stone.
The Golden Knight defeated his opponent and pulled Excalibur out of the stone.
Bryce Harper, a Las Vegas native, dropped the ceremonial first puck. That's Alex Ovechkin from the Washington Capitols and James Neal from the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Christmas tree outside T-Mobile Arena.
T-Mobile Arena
Across the street from the arena.
The Flamingo hotel is renovating its rooms. Apparently I was the first person to stay in the "new" room 155 on the 21st floor. Yay me!

The Blue Angels were at Wings Over Myrtle Beach yesterday. I didn't go to the show but the airport is only about 6 miles away and they did a couple of flybys pretty close to my condo development.

Former major league shortstop Omar Vizquel. He's the manager of the Winston-Salem Dash, Class A Advanced affiliate of the Chicago White Sox in the Carolina League. This year was his first time on the Hall of Fame ballot and he got 37% of the vote. You need 75% to get in so he'll probably make it in the next 2 or 3 years.

Re: Photo Op!!
Omar started his career in Seattle in '89 and played here for 4 seasons. Seattle let him go to Cleveland because they had a kid named Alex Rodriguez coming up quickly in their minor league system. I wish they'd kept "Little O"!
A few of his stats:
All-time leader in double plays made while playing shortstop
11-time Gold Glove recipient
Oldest shortstop recipient of the Gold Glove (age 38 in 2005, and again at age 39 in 2006)
Highest career fielding percentage by a shortstop (0.9846) with at least 1,000 games played
Lowest number of errors in a season (3) by a shortstop
American League record holder for most hits (6) in a nine-inning game
Second-most hits by a shortstop (Jeter)
43rd all-time in career hits (2,877)
2nd all time in games played at shortstop

Re: Photo Op!!
Sorry for the crappy picture but the sun was so bright and there was so much glare, I couldn't see the screen on my phone when I took it. That's Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins on the right. The guy on the left is one of the Pelicans' radio announcers and he isn't very good so I won't give him any publicity.
Ferguson Jenkins sang "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch Friday night. Lee Smith sang it last night but I didn't get a picture of him. That caricature above the press box is supposed to be former Chicago Cubs announcer Harry Carey. The #46 on the wall is Pelicans manager Buddy Bailey. Even though he's still managing them, the team retired his number last season when he became only the 11th manager in minor league history to win 2,000 games in his career.
That's Ferguson Jenkins on the left and Lee Smith on the right. I told them both that I was a Mets fan since I was a kid so I couldn't say I enjoyed watching them pitch, but I told Jenkins I could appreciate the talent it took to get to where he did in his career and I told Smith he should be in the Hall of Fame.

Due to all the forest fires on the west coast, it's been really hazy for the past few days with all the smoke in the air and it caused the sun to be a giant orange orb as it was setting tonight...
