My youngest she-'keet Nicole and her beau Matt joined us in Lucca this week and we took them on day trips to Porto Venere, Montecarlo, Bagni di Lucca, Volterra, and San Gimignano. They started their trip in Sardinia and while there, Matt popped the question. It was no surprise; they've been dating for 12 years, but now it's official. I'm not sure if Matt really knows the ramifications of joining the Johnson clan...

Day trip to Carrara yesterday. Michelangelo would come by horseback from Rome to hand select the marble for his sculptures.

I believe that's a marble quarry
or chalk
they're both white.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

Reading departure signs in some big airport
Reminds me of the places I've been
Or maybe not.....

BIG SALMON! At 38 inches, it's the biggest fish I've caught on a fly.

So I finally figured out what that one notification was that I couldn't find - it was this thread!
Holy "size matters" Batman!
Bill, that's the biggest fish I've ever seen that didn't have Robert Shaw in it's mouth!
Nice catch!!

A most mysterious calling harbour
So far, but yet, so near
Where I see the day
When my hair's full gray
and I finally...disappear. BUT NOT YET!!

We’re off on another “Mrs SPH’s Bucket List” journey….
This week we’re in the Loire Valley, visiting several of the fabulous chateaus in the area.
First it was the Château de Chambord.
