Songs Jimmy Performs On Written by others
This is the list I came up with of songs that Jimmy has performed on which were written by someone else, and sold commercially. I'm sure there are more. It seems like Jimmy IS on one of Mac's albums. I just added one of Sunnyjim's songs too, although Jimmy only says a few words at the end. The Eagles' song, he just sings background vocals on, so yes, I got carried away.

I had a very good time doing my new playlists!
Now, there are so many more ways to organize those!
And, I could have never done this without BN database. Thanks to whomever did that.

I only had to buy about 3 songs from that whole list! And, my Live At Wrigley CD set is missing. So, I had to buy that again.

Re: Songs Jimmy Performs On Written by others
I'm sure he's on background on many, many more.
Brian Wilson's "South American" comes immediately to mind. Jimmy's voice is clear and distinct on that song (great song by the way). The liner notes give song writing credit to "Brian Wilson/Joe Thomas/Jimmy Buffett" and Jimmy Buffett is credited with "Additional background vocals".
And don't forget Marvin Gardens is on the cover of Steve Goodman's album "Somebody Else's Troubles". I always assumed he played or sang on that album as well, but when I checked the liner notes, "Marvin" is only identified as one the persons on the album cover photo - he is not credited with any of the album studio work.

Re: Songs Jimmy Performs On Written by others
I put South American on this list because he WAS one of the writers. And, yes, it's a great song. I think Jimmy's also on Imagination DVD as well as the Imagination CD.

Re: Songs Jimmy Performs On Written by others
I've been building my version of a "Songs JB Has Covered" collection on iTunes. I don't have all
of these, but I do have quite a few... by the original artists. Sometimes I just play the originals
and am amazed at the differences and/or similarities to Mr Buffett's versions.
I also have been collecting what I call my "Buffett Obscure" playlist. They are primarily covers
Jimmy has done that weren't released on any of his "regular" albums. I'm still wondering if that's
really him clucking in the background of "Bluebird of Happiness" by Sun & the Tan Band...
Sounds like I've got a pretty cool hobby, huh? (It's cheaper and safer than drinking.)

Pat, It's a great hobby...I started that same hobby years ago, so I bought the CDs with the original song on it. I just listened to Rodney Crowell's CD with SOTW on it this evening. Can you imagine how many Bruce Cockburn CDs I have? I've really learned to love his music.Desdamona wrote:I've been building my version of a "Songs JB Has Covered" collection on iTunes. Also, I just got Will Kimbrough's Daddy For A Second Time....Nobody From Nowhere is on it.
Love collecting my Keith Sykes too...Jerry Jeff Walker covers a lot of his songs.
Yep, fun fun fun!!!

That's on my list. It is one of my favorites. You can't imagine how special it was for Jimmy to do that one at the Woodland's this year. WOW!
I also have the Nanci Griffith CD with her and Mac McAnally doing GCH...wonderful. In fact, I have collected everything Nanci has ever done also.
Re: Songs Jimmy Performs On Written by others

you forgot Freebird..
Re: Songs Jimmy Performs On Written by others
Hey, I could have the wrong song. Let me double check. At the end Jimmy says "I think it's time for me to catch a plane. I'm gone..."sonofabeach wrote:Jimmy is on a Sunny Jim song? I've heard that song and never noticed.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading about Jimmy's line on that song. I just listened to it.
Maybe it had something to do with the time that Sunnyjim and Adela kept Cameron Marley for Jimmy while he stopped over in Cayman on his birthday one year. Sunnyjim went out to the airport and met Jimmy's plane with his twins. That story is in A Pirate Looks At Fifty.

Well, hey, Santa!ragtopW wrote: you forgot Freebird..
I'm sure there are others too!!! Never heard Free Bird on an album.
I discovered that Jimmy did a Martin Denny instrumental--Quite Village on one of those Live @ Shows for the Tiki Time Tour...Live In Hawaii. I didn't put all of those on my itunes.
