We had "The Captain and the Kid" played at my father's funeral which couldn't of been more appropriate given his love for the sea and the love for it that he instilled in all of his children. For mine, I'd like R.E.M.'s "Find the River" played.
The river to the ocean goes,
a fortune for the undertow.
None of this is going my way.
There is nothing left to throw
of Ginger, lemon, indigo,
coriander stem and rose of hay.
Strength and courage overrides
the privileged and weary eyes
of river poet search naivete.
Pick up here and chase the ride.
The river empties to the tide.
All of this is coming your way.

That'll leave them scratching their heads as they wheel my bones out the door.

Ah yes. most excellent choice.1yountfan wrote:I would play "If it all Falls Down".
If It All Falls Down falls down falls down
I'll have filled that void from city to town
I'll have spent my money and taken my bows
I'll have had my fun If It All Falls Down
If It All Falls Down falls down falls down
If they solve my life if they find me out
Never thought to keep all I have found
I have had my fun If It All Falls Down

Provided I go in the summer, I want an outdoor service/party. Three songs get played during the actual service:
"Why are there so many songs about rainbows" from The Muppet Movie
"That's what living is to me"
"Montego Bay" by Bobby Bloom
Then I want my ashes sent up with a fireworks show set to "The Night I Painted The Sky"

Defying Gravity Would be one of my top choices. I actually told my wife thats what I wanted less than a week ago.
I live on a big round ball
I never do dream I may fall
And even one day if I do
Well I'll jump up and smile back at you
I don't even know where we are
They tell me were circling a star
Well I'll take their word, I don't know
But I'm dizzy so it may be so
I'm riding a big round ball
I never do dream I may fall
And even the high must lay low
But when I do fall I will be glad to go
Yes when I do fall I will be glad to go
I would smile back at you
I live on a big round ball
I never do dream I may fall
And even one day if I do
Well I'll jump up and smile back at you
I don't even know where we are
They tell me were circling a star
Well I'll take their word, I don't know
But I'm dizzy so it may be so
I'm riding a big round ball

And even the high must lay low
But when I do fall I will be glad to go
Yes when I do fall I will be glad to go
I would smile back at you

Well, I can't decide if this thread has depressed me or not. Thinking of music is always fun, thinking about death - not.
When Jimmy played "Defying Gravity" at the concert after the astronauts died two years ago, that was so sad. I don't know how he got through it.
I would at least want "One Particular Harbor". I think a little booklet with the lyrics would be nice. Some people may not be PHs, and this way they could read and appreciate.
My Mom is 84. When she goes, if I'm still on this mortal coil, I will probably be the one arranging her wake and funeral. This thread has got me thinking about putting some of her favorite music together on a cd now, because when the time comes, I may not be able to.
About fifteen years ago, a client had planned for her wake and funeral, and it was really beautiful. One of the things that stayed with me was the theme of the funeral Mass, the hymn "All I Ask Of You Is Forever to Remember Me As Loving You". There was a banner with those words on it, and the hymn was sung during Mass.
And I'm so sorry for all of you who have spoken about your losses.

Lovely Cruise always tops the list. Survive is a great one too. I never really thought about it. That pre-planning idea, that's a great one. Both my grandparents (who were divorced but still very much in love. They just couldn't live together) planned their "afters". Each, seperatly, were cremated and their ashes scattered at sea. I believe it's because they met at a party and spent the rest of the evening walking hand in hand on the beach of NE Florida. Going to the beach is a memorial to me as well as all the other meanings. (relaxing, playing, partying) I don't have a grave site, I have an ocean and I find much more peace there than any where else in the world.
So, I think I'll join them one day. When the time comes. And, I want a celebration of my life. Not tears that I'm gone.

"Mommy, when is Jimmy Buffett coming to OUR house? We go see him ALL THE TIME??" (Actual quote from my 5 y/o keet)
