The "Hoot" simulcast took place on Thursday April 13th from the Edwards Irvine Spectrum 21 theaters in Irvine, CA. There was an advance screening of the movie "Hoot", followed by a Q&A session, and a performance by Jimmy Buffett.
The simulcast included a live performance by Jimmy. He was accompanied by Mac McAnally and Ralph MacDonald and sang three songs "Good Guys Win", "Volcano", and "Margaritaville" with the help of a large parrothead contingent. He had his shoes on for "Good Guys Win" and commented about he couldn’t remember how long it had been since he performed with shoes on. Then the shoes came off for "Volcano" and "Margaritaville".
After the movie the producers, directors, and two of the actors entertained questions from the Irvine theatre as well as some phone-in questions. You really got a feeling of camaraderie from Jimmy, Wil Shriner, Carl Hiaasen, Frank Marshall, Brie Larson, and Cody Linley.
– During the Q&A, Jimmy and Frank Marshall said maybe they’ll do another movie together.
– Jimmy said he needed money for plane fuel, and then back peddled and said "I’m gonna…" then said to cut that.
– In the movie the blonde kid who was sitting next to Roy in Buffett’s class was wearing a Krispy Kreme T-shirt in one scene.
– Jimmy said that he had been surfing earlier in the day in San Onofre and that the Coral Reefer band has been rehearsing in southern CA for the tour.
