Buffett likes the Exit/In

From the Tennessean: "Jimmy Buffett likes Exit/In as his new venue of choice" (thanks to Allen for passing that along to us)

If Buffett again includes Nashville on his summer concert tour, he has already picked out the venue. Sommet Center? Naah. Ryman Auditorium? Think smaller. Buffett likes the Exit/In.

"I played there the second weekend it opened (in 1971), the Friday and Saturday night shows," said Buffett, who was in town for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremonies Sunday night. We were inclined to think he was kidding, until he added, "I just played a show at a 400-seat club in Paris, so the Exit/In is not out of the plan." Buffett played 10 shows at Exit/In

More information is available at the Exit/In website: Owsley Manier tells the story of getting the club ready to open (in 1971), before the stage was even finished, when it was just "a couple of two-by-fours and some plywood." A man walked through the street door–not the famous rear entrance that gave the club its name–and asked for an audition. He walked onto the half-finished stage in cutoffs, played a couple of songs, and Manier said, "That’s cool, you’re hired. What’s your name?" It was Jimmy Buffett, fresh from the college circuit and ready to start a run as one of the Exit/In’s first hot young acts.
