Peter Mayer has been working on a new album called “Songs and Stories from the 12-Volt Man” with some of his favorite Jimmy Buffett songs.

From Peter: After somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,000 shows onstage with Jimmy Buffett, I got to hear a lot of songs… the sarcastic, the sublime, his likes and dislikes, his sense of humor, his barefoot views on life and death and how he shared that with the fans that were diehard, charged, electrified… I was amazed and didn’t always get it. That was until he sat in front of a microphone in Muscle Shoals and played the song “A Lot to Drink About” from his album Buffet Hotel. It wasn’t my favorite song of his, but in that moment, I got it. This was a great story teller who lived his songs true. And convinced me, and a bunch of us that it could be a worthwhile thing to do.
There were his “standard” songs we played every night or be killed. But Jimmy stayed delightfully and irritatingly ADD about wanting to change things up, whether it be an encore, or a surprise last-minute call. Then there were the stop-you-in-your-tracks songs, or even parts of songs that made you say, “Hold on, this guy is a jumper cable, a one-man pandemic wielding his contagious fascination with life.” 12 Volt Man was one of those songs that hit me like that, final song of the night, solo in the encore. “He don’t need no charge card, just give him a DieHard, and he’ll make sparks fly ‘round your head.” Right on the money… story of his life. In honor of Jimmy, his life and fans and songs, I look forward to putting this record of Jimmy songs out. We count ourselves lucky to be included in a gang of friends; “So this is my new band,” that he penned these songs with, and spent decades being a sun-drenched boombox on a beach, powered by a DieHard battery with all of us gathered round, singing along.
When will the release date be?
