Jimmy Buffett exhibit coming to Mobile in Sept 2026

From Fox10 News: Parrotheads rejoice! Jimmy Buffett exhibit coming to Mobile Museum

Parrotheads get ready! There’s a new, permanent exhibit coming to the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf. It highlights the life and legacy of the late Jimmy Buffett. It’s the City of Mobile’s way of honoring one of its own.

Karen Poth, executive director of the museum said, “We’re focusing a lot on, not just pirates and parrots and margaritas, but we’re really focusing on telling the story of who Jimmy Buffett was.”

Poth said there will be two parts to the 6,000 square foot exhibit. A gallery and an immersive experience.

“The immersive concert experience is going to have a lot of never before seen footage from from Jimmy Buffett’s longtime videographer, and then the gallery section will have a lot of family photos, gold records. We’ve got a few guitars, really great stuff,” she said.

Poth said it’s a plan the City of Mobile and the museum starting talking about after Buffett died two years ago and the exhibit is just part of the multiple ways the Port City plans to honor the man who grew up here.

“We’re going to have a statue on the Riverfront so that will also be ready at the same time. And then eventually we’re going to do a Parrothead trail around Mobile, which will will have, you know, places in the sidewalk, and a digital tour of all the places that Jimmy was, and then the exhibit became part of that,” said Poth.

if you go to the museum now, you’ll see artwork of the late musician from Baldwin County students who participated in a contest.

Poth believes the exhibit will bring in Parrotheads from all over the world.

She said, “We really feel like we’ll have the most comprehensive buffet exhibit in the country.”

The exhibit will open in September of 2026.
