This is why I use those sanitation wipes the stores have started placing near the carts.

One of the comments at the end of the article mentions the conveyor belts at the register, that they never get cleaned. I worked in a supermarket when I was in college, and yes it's more than 35 years ago and maybe things have changed, but we cleaned the conveyor belts at every register every night.

So are we to assume that 72% of shoppers wipe their butts, don't wash their hands,
and then grab a shopping cart? Or is this the work of one really disgusting kid who
gathers the carts together from the parking lot? :pirate:

I've actually seen people in the supermarket cleaning them off as well.

I'm sure money is really bad too. I'm not a germ-phobe carrying hand sanitizer around with me.
I have tequila for that

Since I'm not going to be licking my shopping cart I'm really not too concerned about this. BTW germs and bacteria are not a 21st century invention. They have been around longer than humans and will be around much longer.

Or just babies sitting in the baby seat up front with dirty diapers, or the produce that's handpicked and been handled by God only knows how many workers along the way, not to mention has been defecated and urinated on by who knows how many little critters.

I so don't worry about these things, and I never get sick, so I'm not going to freak out now.

Wash your own hands and wash your own produce and everything will be okay. They can register such microscopic amounts of any matter these days I hardly think the upshot of the story is that grocery carts are smeared with human feces.

I would guess that at least 72% of anything is contaminated with something. Closer to 100%. Just wash your hands and keep your fingers out of your eyes and mouth beforehand. The only spooky thing are the drug resistant germs. Please don't demand an antibiotic from your physician. If one isn't ordered, it's because it won't help. If you do get a prescription, take the entire thing! Those two scenarios are responsible for our super bugs. If you are not immunosuppressed and practice good handwashing, life is as safe (or dangerous) as it's ever been. As Forrest Gump said, "**it happens"

Without this viewtopic.php?f=31&t=85600 there would be no place to pontificate about the poop. It must be all about the poop.

I worked at a Winn Dixie when I was 16 and believe me we cleaned the belts everyday....some more than others, but they were cleaned everyday!
