sick at work
I have been sick over the weekend and still today.
So this morning my boss hears me coughing and wheezing, and says to me, “Rich, are you sick? I don’t want you here if you are sick getting everyone else sick. If you are sick, I want you to go home now”.
I cough and say in a totally sick voice, “No, I am not sick, I had the sniffles yesterday, I coughed a lot and my throat is sore from all of the coughing, but I am NOT sick”
The dude who sits behind me, pipes in without being asked “yeah, a lot us are sick, I am not feeling well either”. I was going to smack him. This dude felt good enough to go to Las f’n Vegas over the three day weekend now he is snitching me out as being sick. Makes me glad he is not in the car when I get pulled over.

Re: sick at work
Sorry about that Rich but I'm on the other side of this one. I get very mad at the guys in my shop who consider themselves to be too important to stay home sick. If you are sick STAY HOME.

If you're coughing and wheezing stay home. If you're employed in a close quartered work environment then it's both selfish and stupid for you to come into work and risk the spread of your ailment to others.
In your message you state that you're still sick "today" yet lied to your boss about being sick when he asked you?!
Cheers

Re: sick at work
Went to work yesterday after a week of vacation, as my co-worker was not supposed to be in. Turned out she showed up, and proceeded to tell me to call the doctor. I did, left early, and am home today with bronchitis. It's about the 4th time in 5 years I've called in, but I know when to stay home. Luckily I do get paid for it using my PTO... same stuff I use for vacation, but at least it's there.
Hope you feel better soon, Rich!!

Not everyone does. A lot of people don't have sick pay, depending on the company they work for.Snowparrot wrote:Don't you people have sick leave?

Re: sick at work
My employees out for more than 3 days must provide a doctors certification to come back to work. Any time you're out without providing a doctors excuse it counts as an occurance. We're on the point system - at the beginning of the year you have 9 points and each occurance duducts points. When you get to 6 points I give you a verbal warning, 3 you're put on probabion and I write you up. You get to 0 and I terminate you.SMLCHNG wrote:Not everyone does. Re: sick at work
My husband has no sick leave, no vacation days, no personal days. If he doesn't work, he doesn't get paid. That said, anyone sick with a fever shouldn't be at work...Snowparrot wrote:Don't you people have sick leave?

Re: sick at work
nope....well....sort of...I get five paid days a year.....they go pretty quick when you have stellar days off like Wednesday and Sunday.....so for the most part, if I miss work, I miss money. Fortunately, I don't get sick.....but unless I was pretty effin' sick...I'm dragging my ass to work and infecting the world. I can't live without a paycheck.Snowparrot wrote:Don't you people have sick leave?

At first glance, I thought the title of this thread was "sick of work".

Re: sick at work
I used 100 sick hours last year.
I was probably actually sick for about half. Go me!! Well, too sick to work but not too sick to go fishin'
I work with a couple of guys with uber amounts of sick and vacation on the books but never take off. They have no lives and just traveling out of the county is a big deal to them.

Re: sick at work
Well today the boss sent me home. She didn’t want me around her or my coworkers. I might go see Avatar and find someone in the theater to cough on….

Re: sick at work
I work for the 3rd largest hardwear store in US. We don't get sick pay. In that case unless I'm coughing blood, I will show up at work. Management gets some sick pay we get nothing. Nowadays most people can't afford to take a hit for sick days. Everybody pays if You take germs to work.
We could start a tread about health care, but, right now more and more can't take a hit like that.
In 2006, I had surgery, I was supposed to take 6 weeks off. I missed 10 days. Only missed 4 Baseball games. I can afford to miss certain amount of games. Most can't. On that I blame both sides of the asile.

Re: sick at work
Do you not get short term disability? Our hourly people don't have insurance but they do have STD. If you had STD you could have taken the full 6 weeks. Did your doctor release you after the 10 days?moeron wrote:I work for the 3rd largest hardwear store in US. We don't get sick pay. In that case unless I'm coughing blood, I will show up at work. I get 40-hours of "floating holiday"
40-hours sick
120-hours paid vacation
The sick time isn't really 'given' but it's there to use.
And yes, my company has short-term disability leave too.
Guess that's what I get for working for the nations largest payroll company.
