How To Talk To Ann Coulter (if you must) . . .

Post by flyboy55 »

Even prominent conservatives have finally made it plain they don't want to be associated with her ranting anymore. This brings up the obvious question: Is there any reason for anyone to talk to (or listen to) Ann Coulter anymore?
WASHINGTON - Outspoken U.S. conservative columnist Ann Coulter is drawing fire from Republicans and Democrats alike after publicly using a derogatory gay slur in reference to Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards.

“Ann Coulter not only once again went out of her way to use a nasty epithet, she pushed her offensiveness up a notch,” Amy Ridenour, president of the National Center for Public Policy Research, said on Sunday.

Coulter made the comments on Friday during a speech at the influential American Conservative Union’s Political Action Conference, calling Edwards a “faggot.”

We conservatives have enough trouble overcoming the false things that are said about us without paying for a platform upon which we shoot ourselves annually in the foot,” Ridenour, whose group helped sponsor the conference, said in a statement on the center’s Web site.

. . .

Coulter’s Friday speech raised objections from Republican presidential hopefuls Sen. John McCain of Arizona, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani as well as Democrats.

In a statement on Sunday, Romney spokesman Kevin Madden said, “It was an offensive remark. Political discourse ought to be more substantive and thoughtful.” McCain, the only contender who did not attend the event, and Giuliani called Coulter’s words inappropriate, according to the New York Times.

. . .

Several conservatives were also quick to denounce Coulter’s comments in a variety of online columns.

These people aren't in control of the country. As with any group, some people are just a little (or a lot) more extreme than others. I don't particularly agree with the way Ann Coulter presents her arguments  but I think she occasionally has valid points. The problem with delivering your POV the way she does is the high likelihood that no one will take you seriously.

Her solution to deal with Arabs overseas...
"we should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity."
Her solution to deal with Arab Americans...
"Congress could pass a law tomorrow requiring that all aliens from Arabic countries leave"
On the 9/11 widows who dared speak out on the 9/11 report that was critical of the administration...
"These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis... These self-obsessed women seemed genuinely unaware that 9/11 was an attack on our nation and acted as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them... I’ve never seen people enjoying their husbands’ deaths so much."

On North Korea...
"I think we ought to nuke North Korea right now just to give the rest of the world a warning."
On Canada...
"[Canadians] better hope the United States does not roll over one night and crush them. They are lucky we allow them to exist on the same continent."
On court ordered desegregation in the schools...
"Few failures have been more spectacular. Illiterate students knifing one another between acts of sodomy in the stairwell is just one of the many eggs that had to be broken to make the left's omelette of transferring power from states to the federal government."
On the environment...
"The ethic of conservation is the explicit abnegation of man's dominion over the Earth. The lower species are here for our use. God said so: Go forth, be fruitful, multiply, and rape the planet--it's yours. That's our job: drilling, mining and stripping. Sweaters are the anti-Biblical view. Big gas-guzzling cars with phones and CD players and wet bars -- that's the Biblical view."
On freedom of speech...
"They're [Democrats] always accusing us of repressing their speech. I say let's do it. Let's repress them. Frankly, I'm not a big fan of the First Amendment."
On Arabs...
"I think our motto should be, post-9-11, 'raghead talks tough, raghead faces consequences.'"
On other journalists...
"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times building."
Her worldview in general...
"I think the government should be spying on all Arabs, engaging in torture as a televised spectator sport, dropping daisy cutters wantonly throughout the Middle East, and sending liberals to Guantanamo."

On New York...
"If Chicago had been hit, I assure you New Yorkers would not have cared. What was stunning when New York was hit was how the rest of America rushed to New York's defense. New Yorkers would have been like, 'It's tough for them; now let's go back to our Calvin Klein fashion shows.'"
On women...
"I think [women] should be armed but should not vote...women have no capacity to understand how money is earned. They have a lot of ideas on how to spend it...it's always more money on education, more money on child care, more money on day care."
"It would be a much better country if women did not vote. That is simply a fact. In fact, in every presidential election since 1950 - except Goldwater in '64 - the Republican would have won, if only the men had voted."
On Social Security...
"there are the 39 million greedy geezers collecting Social Security. The greatest generation rewarded itself with a pretty big meal."
Finally, her true feelings...
"My libertarian friends are probably getting a little upset now but I think that's because they never appreciate the benefits of local fascism."

I'd love to see her pull an 'Anna Nicole', but frankly she's not cool enough for drugs...

It's really quite remarkable what people think they can get away with saying
once propped up with a microphone and some fanatic supporter's money.

She fails to realize that in the fascist (yep, I said it... again) society she envisions,
she would quickly be trivialized as nothing more than mouthy trash, and probably used and passed around as such.

BD, any of those quotes could be quoted out of context...your known for that..

not that I cared for her exchange with Darryl Hannah. She was rude and treated Hannah like she was nothing but subordinate to her..

maybe she is out of control, but quoting anyone like you have is extremely unfair to the reader.

Sadly, not much context is needed for this reader to know that Coulter's viewpoints conflict with all of my own. She calls them as she sees them; give readers credit for reading further if they find these brief quotes reprehensible and near-sighted.

I have no problem with the rest of your examples but if they're Arab Americans to me that implies they're American citizens. An alien, Arab or otherwise, isn't a citizen.

I do, however, have a problem with this. By wishing she were dead aren't you doing pretty much the same thing she's being condemned for?

I thought I had finaly given up real life and escaped to Margaritaville by firing up the laptop for BN and satellite for RM every night instead of the T.V.

I certainly don't agree with her...I didn't think that was the issue...

and I doubt very seriously that anyone would do any further reading on any quotes that BD has quoted, whether they found them reprehensilve or near-sighted...therein lies the fault...

I know I definitely wouldn't seek them out..

words taken out of context do not convey the speaker/writers thought, in fact, often...quite the opposite.

Yep. Sure is.

Just curious how many people who were incensed at her remarks thought that the crapstorm over John Edwards' bloggers was just conservatives being narrow-minded and fascist.

Really? Nice double standard. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the mindset of the left. [/i]

The most recent offense for which Ms. Coulter is being condemned consists of using a slander against a presidential candidate that constitutes a slur on homosexuals.

I didn't do that.

I simply voiced the opinion that a pay-per-view program documenting her self destruction by over medication would get my money.

God, I thought you were smart...

And I'm not a lefty (I just bat that way)
