Stories about meeting Jimmy
Who out there has had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy? I love reading stories on BN about people running into Jimmy at a bar before a show or other places. I have not had the fortune of meeting JB but hope to some day.
Have you met Jimmy? What is your story?

I was fortunate to bump into Jimmy on a semi-lazy May day in 1989 in Key West. 11 years later I finally (after several near misses) was able to meet Captain Tony also at his 85th birthday party in Key West. Story and photo posted here: http://www.surfpirates.com/piratejourna ... ny2001.htm

Re: Stories about meeting Jimmy
Very nice, friends of mine went to Key West for their honeymoon a couple of years ago. While down there they met Captain Tony. They had him sign a shirt for me. Not as cool of a story as yours, but you know, I'll take what I can get.surfpirate wrote:1 years later I finally (after several near misses) was able to meet Captain Tony also at his 85th birthday party in Key West. Met him in Pittsburgh a few years ago when I covered the area for my sales territory. Talked to him for a bit about growing up S. Florida, Hurricanes (as Francis was hitting his place), and a few other things. Later in the evening after a few beers with a buddy of mine he came back and I got him to sign my copy of Where is Joe Merchant. It was awesome. I couldn't stop smiling for weeks.
Sure enough everyone else I knew, just said, "Big deal....".
Met Capt Tony in KW last year- will have to upload a pic of that when I get a chance.

Great Stories
These are great stories, I met Captain Tony last year at his 89th birthday party in Key West. I'll have to post a picture. We had a nice conversation about Jimmy. It is obvious Tony looks at Jimmy like a son.
My Mother's Doctor told her a story this year when she mentioned my wife and I were going to the Buffett show in WI. My Mom's doctor (Karen) and her husband where on a trip to Jamacia a couple of years ago and at that time Karen's brother who was a huge Buffett fan was dying of cancer. While in Jamacia they went to Margaritaville to buy some things for her brother and have a drink. When Karen sat down at the bar she asked the bartender how often Jimmy comes in. The bartender said "honestly I have not seen him here in over a year". 10 minutes later a couple very large gentlemen enter the place and who is with them but JB! JB sits down at bar and Karen goes up and tells him about her brother. She said Jimmy could not have been more kind and caring. He spent time with her, took pictures and sent a message back to her brother. Needless to say she had nothing but good things to say about Jimmy.

metting Jimmy
1992, worked for Westinghouse communities building golf course communities...Grand opening celebration in Ft. Myers was a golf and music festival, invitees were Jimmy, Vince Gill, Glenn Frey, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Steve Elkington, Dan Marino, Don Strock, Peter Jacobsen. Was supposed to pick Jimmy up at Page field but he arrived early and got his own ride. Damn...Had to drive a Drunk(but very funny) Dan Marino around..later, standing with a group of the guys, shooting the s**t for about 10 minutes, the short guy next to me, that had been there the entire time said something that made me snap my neck...Jimmy!!! Had a short but cool conversation about how I admired his music...we shook hands and he made sure he asked my name...14 years later and I still get a nod and acknoweldgement when I can get front row....

the following story is true - I swear on my last Corona . .
my friend and I were able to get tickets for opening night of Jimmy's play in Coconut Grove . The only ones available were in the last of the balcony, but at least we were there. Jimmy came out on stage for the introduction and the play started, then the door of the balcony opened and Jimmy sat right next to me on the steps. "how's the sound up here? everything OK ? He sat there for some time and we whispered back and forth - no one else in the whole balcony knew he was even there ! Then he got up to go - well, we were right behind him and he stood outside the balcony, signed our program and talked some more.
The rest of the play was a blur - but after it was over we went back to the bar down the street to tell our friendly bartender the story .He had told us earlier that Herman Wouk was there and we got him to sign my first edition copy of DSTC .
As we walked past the theater , a guy from the play asked us if we wanted inside to the cast party. . . ! ! ! ! WOW - ! ! ! ! Sure enough, there was Jimmy and when he saw us he said "Hey, Ramos ! come meet my BALCONY GIRLS ! ! ! !"
We have been lucky enough to run into him several more times - but at every concert, if he knows we're there, he always says "hi" to us. . usually as " Hello, Balcony Girls ! ! " . .! !
One of our favorites was when he said Hi to us as he walked on stage at the Coastal Confessions show in New Orleans.
We have spent many years following Jimmy, and have lots of stories . Thanks for letting us share.

It seems like I have told this story over and over, so those of you who have already read this ... just ignore.
The year (?) that he did the tour with his plane, "Hemisphere Dancer" ... I think it might have been the Beach House On the Moon tour. My hubby and I arrived at "The SportsPage" in Mountain View in late afternoon ... this is the official gathering spot before any concert at Shoreline.
As we walked out into the back patio area from the bar, I heard someone yell "Hey Jimmy ... good to see ya". I looked to my left, and there he was!
Leaning on the doorway, grinning like a possum ... had a Corona in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
At first, I thought the place had hired some Look alike person, because this guy was smoking. But no ... it was Bubba. The place was alive with Parrot Heads, and no one bothered him for autographs and such. All seemed content to just watch and enjoy. I was the best thing ... JB walked around, and enjoyed all the foolishness. He just wanted to blend in, it seemed.
I didn't notice when he left for Shoreline, but his pilot buzzed us as we were at the bar!
My hubby JP (dear departed) was a regular at the bar, and talked to the owner, who told us that "Jimmy's People" had called earlier to find out if everyone would be cool with this. He assured him that all would be ok, so Bubba came on over.
Hope this will be the final story of "my sighting". But each time he plays Shoreline in Mountain View, I will look for him at the SportsPage.
