Spokane is actually one of the cities listed in my latest book "50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family" 3rd edition. It's got a beautiful river walk downtown. I could send you some info. Google Spokane, WA though and the city web site and chamber of commerce has lots of ideas.

Received some info in the mail but always good to get someone's input who's actually a traveler and who might have some can't miss ideas of their own!Shaputis wrote:Spokane is actually one of the cities listed in my latest book "50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family" 3rd edition. I'd make it a point to see the Davenport hotel and even stay there, very nice accomodations. It is an old school hotel from the old days. Like the Peabody in Memphis in some ways. Have a cocktain in the lobby bar and enjoy the architecture
The downtown and riverfront park area are very nice to wander about, shop and eat.
A short drive to Couer D'Alene to see the town and mostly the lake is great. North a bit to Hayden and Hayden Lake is beautiful too.

Hmmmm..... My grandmother lived there & my dad grew up there. I didn't realise it was such a destination! Couer D'Alene is beautiful, I know, but all I remember from Spokane is a park near my grandmother's house that had a swimming pool and tall trees.Shaputis wrote:Spokane is actually one of the cities listed in my latest book "50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family" 3rd edition. I have in laws (maybe out laws I'm not sure) that live in the area. Don was born there. I'll be sure to remind him to check in here and offer his input.
That's the only things I know about it. Oh and Gonzaga had a huge campus fire a few weeks back that destroyed a new student housing unit set to open this summer.

I go up to Lake Coeur d'Alene for a week or more every year, which is in that area. We go up to Sandpoint, home of blue cheese, pie and Coldwater Creek (it's a clothing chain) outlet store. We take a boat ride on the Lake. Lake Coeur d'Alene is like Tahoe only not spoiled. Eat at the famous Coeur d'Alene resort, shop in the really vibrant downtown, they have these evening art walk open houses there? Drive west on US 2 from Spokane across the prairie and see the Grand Coulee d*m if you want to see something really large. Gonzaga U is there, there is probably some baseball going on, although their big thing is basketball. West of Spokane there's not much, but east and into that little bit of Idaho there's mountains, lakes, hiking, and it is really pretty. Hope this helps. I usually go in fall, because it is nice to have a little autumn when you live in Southern CA. :)
