My take on it? Quit yer bitchin.
Jimmy's releasing a new album. That's good enough for me. Jimmy's put's his name and other trademarks on stuff. Who cares? Do you like him, his lifestyle, and his music? I do.

VERY WELL said.. so anyone NOT liking what he is doing now should have dumped Jimmy A LONG TIME AGO!!BinghamtonPH wrote:This reply is sure to upset a few... but Jimmy "sold out" (whatever that means) a long time ago. Margaritaville Restaurants, Cheeseburger's in Paradise, $1,000,000 for him to play a private event, Krispy Kreme donuts, trademarks and copyrights on pratically everything. The fact that MTV doesn't show him, and radio hardly plays his stuff is not his doing - He doesn't program MTV or the radio stations - record companies push the albums, etc to the radio stations. Personally, I listen to him because his music makes me happy - regardless of whether or not he is a "sell-out" - Actually, I'm happy he's getting more notice in the mainstream - The world may become a more peaceful place if more people adopted the philosophy and lifestyle - it's not just music, it's a way of life.
Why is it when Jimmy sells the phrase "Changes in Latitudes" to a beer company it's ok - but when it's Sports Illustrated, he's a sellout? I think it's kinda cool that SI and their bikini goddesses are catching on to what's cool.

Besides, I don't think Jimmy has sold out on anything other than Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays when he's on tour. Everything else has just been good business.

Hello, photogal wrote:Hello, my first time posting, I read you guys converstions all the time. I just thought I'd put my two cents in about this new album. Its strating to look like Jimmy might be ditching us for country folk. What one song charts the country and off he goes? Is it all about the money (I started to think that when the gross shrip came out)? I think I'm goin need to hear clips of this album before I buy it. I hate country, dont mean to panic.........but it's not looking good.
You know country is not really that unusual for Jimmy. Alot of his old music had a good time country feel to it ("Great Fillin Station Hold up", "Blonde Stranger"," Railroad Lady", "Ringling, Ringling", "Brahma Fear", "Brand New Country Star", "Livingston's Gone To Texas", and more). It seems to me he is coming full circle. Also he had good friends such as Jerry Jeff, Will Jennings...
I don't know..this just doesn't really surprise me and I kind of like it. I also like when he mixes it up with the cajun guys like Zachary Richard and Sonny Landreth. He's just a versatile kind of guy..go Jimmy!

I think Jimmy is helping to introduce Parrotheads to good music other than his own. Just like he's done for years by providing a place for newer artists to perform in his Margaritaville Cafes.
Alan Jackson invited Jimmy to do a duet of Margaritaville on Under the Influence several years ago. Kenny Chesney sang about Jimmy in How Forever Feels. Clint Black toured with Jimmy the first year without Fingers.
All three mentioned Jimmy as an influence on their music.
