I ordered the new colored vinyl of Life On The Flip Side.
I did write the Mailboat records folks and requested some more issues. There were receptive, but ultimately MCA controls this not them. And we know MCA sucks. While the colored pressings are fun, in my opinion they are of extremely poor quality. I have some that skip on the first play.
But it would be fun to have:
Coconut Telegraph: exact same white label center as original pressing, Coconut Brown vinyl.
Floridays: Yellow Sunshine vinyl.
Off To See The Lizard: Iguana Green vinyl.
Agreed on all points here. Those colored editions would be awesome. I have all but one of the colored pressings (Fruitcakes was the only one I missed as it initially sold out quickly, so I opted for standard). I will say they are neat to own and listen to, but there was not much improvement (if at all) over most of the older LPs I have collected over the years.
I had debated investing $$ in vinyl-ripping hardware and software when the first few runs were announced so I could start building higher-quality audio files to my collection from them, but, things got pricey quick and I opted not to, once I started listening to the vinyl batches.
My colored vinyl of Living and Dying in 3/4 Time skips at the very beginning. I'll likely just get the standard black vinyl to replace it.
I believe this has been noted somewhere on here before, but I find the overdubbed harmonica solo on Remittance Man on the new Barometer Soup vinyl not ideal. Not only does it seem to replace one of Fingers' greatest studio contributions, but it also does not seem to fit with the slow, seafaring lilt of the song. However, I would be very interested to hear the story as to how that decision came about. Any ideas/info on that?
