Koala Chaos FRIDAY @ the MSC
I am getting in early with this topic today as it is Friday here and there are Machiavellian plots aplenty here in the glorious state of New South Wales.
We are looking at our state government imploding, tearing itself asunder because of...
KOALAS!
The government passed legislation last year that means that large landholders (farms and mines etc) need to do an expanded assessment regarding koala habitat before land clearing. Koalas are an endangered species and were massively impacted by the fires late last year and early this year.
The government is a coalition of a conservative party (The Liberals) and a party which claims to be 'the farmers party' (The Nationals) but really represents mining and forestry industries.
Although the Nationals voted for this bill, they are now saying it must be repealed or they will leave the coalition, triggering a crisis in parliament.
Put bluntly, they want to give big agribusinesses and mining companies the right to exterminate koalas and their habitat.
Why on earth would you a) want that and b) stake your political future on such a move?
You know we're talking about these guys:
and
It's like the Florida Governor saying manatees damage propellers so should be exterminated...

My first thought was Randy Newman's "Political Science" but then I remembered the line was
"We'll save Australia, don't want to hurt no kangaroos" (not koalas...)
"We'll save Australia, don't want to hurt no kangaroos" (not koalas...)
I know the voices in my head aren’t real, but sometimes they have really good ideas…..

Good Morning (at 6:20 a.m.). It looks like a few of you are either 1/2 way around the world in a whole different time zone OR you are staying up way past your bedtime....I think you know who I'm talking to .
Not much on our Friday schedule -- both of us head to work today (Kevin is still 2.5 days/wk -- the County believes by the end of October all offices will be set up for "Covid distancing"). We've got 9 yr old grandson Eli overnight. We'll be playing board games with him. We play sports with Austin, the 6 yr old grandson.

Morning BNers
No matter matter how many years it will be, 9/11 will always be a special day.
And please save the koalas. When we go to San Diego zoo, I could stand and watch the koalas forever. The few times we have been there, they are so precious. And the babies....
