Welcome to the board. BTW, careful what you say and how you say it as there are some real a$$holes here that don't take too kindly to folks expressing opinions they don't agree with. Instead of taking into account that not everyone thinks alike and have their heads up Buffett's a$$, they have a tendency to throw around insulting terminology such as referring to those they disagree with as "whiny" or "opinionated". Glad to see someone else here that isn't afraid to speak their mind.Lisacatty wrote:I love Jimmy as much as the next guy, but I agree that his ticket prices are too much. Re: Ticket Prices
So your husband is fine with the ticket prices? And it might be more than you would spend but there are probably things you spend money on that are more than he would spend? Doesn't mean Jimmy's prices are too high. Just means marital harmony and all that, right?Lisacatty wrote:I love Jimmy as much as the next guy, but I agree that his ticket prices are too much. There are many ticket price options (pricey>budget) for many fan level options (hardcore>newbie).
It's a beautiful thing.

There is a certain breed of fan that are incapable of engaging in constructive criticism because their fandom is such that they're blinded by it and get offended at even the least amount of criticism directed at Buffett. The only thing I "got" is that you are one of the easily offended that I referred to in my previous post. A certain amount of outrage over a well meaning music related post I made in the Parrothead Social Area that you got butthurt over comes to mind but that's only the tip of the iceberg.Bicycle Bill wrote:I'm glad you "got it". I guess I don't get why you need to rip into other fans? I don't drink margaritas or own pink flamingos but I don't care if others do. I can appreciate discussion about the musician or the music but I don't understand criticizing other fans or their experience. And you seem to do it often. It takes away from your obvious knowledge and makes you unpleasant to be around. And you don't seem to do it over at BW, where there are also plenty of margarita bro dudes - but much less posting activity.Tiki Torches wrote:

Re: Ticket Prices
It doesn't have anything to do with drinking margaritas or pink flamingos (though I have no idea what that particular comment is in reference to), it has to do with those who's fandom is such that they believe Buffett (or any artist for that matter) can do no harm and they get easily offended at even the slightest bit of criticism, even when it is of a constructive nature. Also, it's not "ripping" into fellow fans to call a spade a spade. Speaking of which, I must have missed the part where I ripped into any fans in this thread. I merely spoke up regarding those artists that go out of their way to look out for their fans, especially when it comes to ticket pricing. In that regard, BN has always been a bit of an anomaly as I've actually encountered very few music fans here. On other boards I've visited over the years, the in depth discussion of a variety of musical artists (not just the one the boards are dedicated to) are encouraged. Here, it's as though you've committed some sort of an unspoken crime if you mention some other artist besides Buffett or, God forbid, an artist that doesn't fit into the "Trop Rock" realm. I'm not sure if you're aware of it but oftentimes, Buffett fans are considered to have very limited, bland and generic musical tastes. As a longtime member of this board (and the iPod Shuffle thread), I found that that's not necessarily true but there have been occasions where that description fits some of the fans to a tee. That said, there's nothing whatsoever the matter with that but there are those of us out there that are much more musically adventurous. In my many years as being a member of this board, it's been my experience that there are very few of those type of folks here. Hell, I've even been discouraged from discussing other artists (and even music in general) here. That's an attitude I've never really encountered anywhere else. Another aspect that reinforces the Parrothead stereotype. I know some will be offended by my bluntness but that's the truth of the matter. Sad but true.lime rickie wrote:I guess I don't get why you need to rip into other fans? I don't drink margaritas or own pink flamingos but I don't care if others do. LOL, you just used the term 'margarita gaggers' a few days ago in the Woodstock thread. And you just referred to "arseholes" in this thread. I don't have any personal beef with it because I'm not particularly sensitive, other than that I think it is rude. LOL Just saying that the personal fan criticisms distract from your other potential contributions. Keep it to JB and the music. That's all.

Re: Ticket Prices
I never said I'd never referred to the overzealous fans as margarita gaggers before. I was just clarifying that I wasn't actually referring to people that drink margaritas and that it's just an expression since you said you don't drink margaritas. In reference to my a$$holes comment, I stand by that because it's true but in my previous post I was referring to the early part of this discussion regarding high ticket prices. Personally, I see no harm in calling out those that get upset when someone offers constructive criticism regarding Buffett. Fans of every artist have those type of fans but they're particularly abundant here. Kind of hard to have a reasonable discussion with those type of fans that are incapable of constructive criticism and get bent out of shape anytime anyone says anything less than favorable about Buffett, no matter how well intentioned or informed those comments may be. Who wants to visit a website where all the fans do is engage in a bunch of backslapping? I sure as hell don't. Oh, and this thread really doesn't have anything to do with music, to the best of my knowledge it's about high ticket prices. I merely mentioned that there are actually other artists out there that make a concerted effort to look out for their fans by offering lower ticket prices. Evidently, that upset some people that seem more than content to continue paying through the nose for tickets.lime rickie wrote:LOL, you just used the term 'margarita gaggers' a few days ago in the Woodstock thread. Re: Ticket Prices
Agree, I do not see that the ticket prices have changed it the last 5 years or so, if they did it is not much. The venue on the other hand is almost pricing away the huge parking lot crowd (in Frisco), it was already smaller last year than in years past. That said, I will be there, maybe not with the RV, but non-the-less, I wanna see my friends and all the crazies in the lot and I still wanna hear the music. (BEG, I hope Austin gains popularity but does not go crazy, but with the setup they have for RV's it could easily happen.......I read where for some races the prices were crazy) Although I think some of the landowners out that way are also cashing in of 'field camping')browneyedgrltx wrote:I don't mind the ticket prices but the parking is getting outrageous!! $560 for 4 reserved parking spaces in Frisco for an RV? Re: Ticket Prices
At least Austin has proper hookups for RVs with water, electric, shower and bathroom buildings but only charge $250 - $400 depending on the concert. We are paying $400 for RedFest and $250 for JB. But we get full hookups for 3 days! The dry RV parking is very reasonable too - unlike Frisco. They only charge that much in Frisco because of the popularity of the tailgate experience there. With no golf carts or even electric coolers allowed anymore, the experience is waning for us. Austin and Vegas will just have to do. The F1 promoters charge outrageous prices because they can and people pay it!srkmrd wrote:Agree, I do not see that the ticket prices have changed it the last 5 years or so, if they did it is not much. Re: Ticket Prices
Just out of curiosity I checked several venues and at least the ones I looked at are not sold out, some not even close. (I looked for two tickets at Frisco, Raleigh, Charlotte, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Mansfield.) No, the seats weren't right down front but you got in the door to see the show. Is it apathy or high ticket prices or is it something else?

it might be a combination of things:
a) Jimmy isn't the hottest ticket in town anymore, last couple albums have been marginal at best beyond the PH world especially
b) it's been pretty much the same show for 10 years. If you've seen (or heard via RM) two or three, it's really not worth the $ for the tickets, tho being gone for the tailgate and family reunion, yes.
c) while they haven't gone up incredibly since the last bump in 2006-2007, when his tickets jumped from $75 to $135/, it took a lot of the PHC members out of the game.

I spent two shows worth of Vacation and $$ in New Orleans with Mardi Gras.
last year it was a game at Texas A&M (not so much the $$ but the time)
also Travel prices (and time to get there) have gone to the totally ignorant from Boise. I can almost do Paris for less $$ than DC.. and it is within an hour of travel time
I can do a six day trip to Hong Kong for less than a lot of Jimmy Buffett shows so the Value isn't there for me
I do miss the crew. and want to figure out a way to do both but the real answer is.................. there are many many answers.
