I haven't inquired as to the value of Buffett records at record shows (there's a couple in my area every six months) or any of the local new and used record shops but it's been my experience that they don't let their own personal tastes reflect upon their opinion. I'm not saying those kind of folks aren't out there but if they are, that's just bad business practice. Most, if not all of my encounters with record collectors have been pleasant and they've been honest, though it never hurts to get a second opinion. It goes without saying but it all depends on what the market will bear and how much of a demand there is for specific recordings. After my parents died I looked into having their album collection evaluated. Searching online for info was somewhat helpful but what proved most helpful was talking with a local dealer about it's worth. What I soon found out was that unless you have a true rarity (wrong serial #, misprint, rare pressing, etc.) that most records only fetch around a $1 piece or less. If a record dealer allows their own opinion of an artist to enter the picture when assessing an album's worth, that's a red flag that you're dealing with the wrong person. However, as I've said, I've never really encountered anyone with that attitude.

In regards to Goldmine, the link urlcenter posted includes listings from a couple of Goldmine guides that include every Buffett album ever released on vinyl. A value is placed on every one of them with the exception of Before the Salt and that Excelsior Records release. I don't see anything there that indicates a bias or any type of music snobbery towards Buffett.

One major factor in collecting and valuing of Jimmy's vinyl LP's is that some of the album were released twice on two different labels. These albums are:

White Sport Coat
Living and Dying in 3/4 Time
A1A
Havana Daydreaming
Son of a Son of A Sailor
You Had To Be There

Each of the albums listed above was an original ABC Records album released from 1973 to 1978 with gatefold jackets and lots of album artwork. When ABC Records was absorbed by MCA in 1979, MCA reissued all of ABC's albums as MCA Albums. The six Buffett albums listed above were reissued under the MCA Label with most if not all of the artwork removed and in standard album jackets with no gatefolds. These MCA vinyl LP's tend to value lower because of the bare bones way they were released.

Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes was also re-released by MCA in a single sleeve with none of the original artwork or liner notes other than what appeared on the front and back covers. If I'm not mistaken, the vinyl itself also differs as it includes a reprise of the title track done acoustically that wasn't on the original release.

Down To Earth but it's not the original, it's a reissue on the Excelsior label from '81. The artwork can be found on the first page of this thread.

The title of that album is "Jimmy Buffett" it is a 1981 reissue of Down to Earth with a couple of the tracks in a different order then they were on Down to Earth

I have two Buffett vinyl albums - High Cumberland Jubilee and Son of a Son of a Sailor - that are free to a good home.

If anyone would like them, you're welcome to them. I'll even pay the postage to send them to you. Of course, in exchange, I will hit you up next year for a donation to St. Jude's when I run warrior dash.

These albums are definitely not pristine. Both covers show wear and tear, worn edges, and the albums inside have obviously been used. I have never played them, don't even own a turntable, so I've no clue what shape they're in. Hence, my willingness to give them away.
