We were still gonna come to I can has Cheezburger in Paradise on Wed. Sometime at night though. It's a LONG haul for us in Ann Arbor, made longer by gut bomb food and sugar drinks.
Who's going to Ilo's show at Portofino in Wyandotte on Friday? They have lucious food and drink and a snazzy view of the river/Grosse Ile.
I was sad to see JB's Wharf go bye-bye earlier this year...it was the only other good restaurant on the river down there.
But their food was pretty much 99% reheated frozen GFS. No love in da vittles!

So, where's the 'usual' parking lot area? This is only my second year but as I say, I am curiously dedicated!

Well don't quote me on this...because I have trouble finding it every year....but if you are looking at the venue it is toward the right hand side of the parking lot near the grassy strip. So you have the grassy strip in front of you and a hill behind you. However since we never get there early, there is always the chance that whoever does get there early will find a different spot to set up.

We call the "grassy strip" the Oasis! We try to park near "The Oasis" so we can set up our chairs & grill up there in the shade. Plus you're up a bit so you have a nice view over the lot. Have done that every year we've seen Jimmy at PK. The Parking Lot Nazi's are getting into the habit of parking everybody 1 by 1, side by side as soon as you enter the lot to the right...but there are ALWAYS pholks who clash with authority! But you're correct Meg....seems the DPC members get in pretty quick & pull a quick right hand turn in the first couple rows.

The strip of trees that run across the middle of the parking lots in your photo that go left to right (or right to left if you choose) cover the "Grassy Strip" area. They normally have a few porto johns there (although MANY MANY pholks just use the surrounding wooded areas) as well as some trash cans.
You will enter the venue on what is called in your pic Pine Knob Rd. from the far left. As SOON as you get to the big paved area you'll most likely be directed to make a right turn of which you'll be heading towards "The Grassy Strip" which separates the back lot from the front lot.

Amazing how what I think of as a grassy strip looks like a bunch of trees from above

We always end up coming in on the road between the hill (where we always end up parked) and the back paved parking lot.

I usually end up having to call someone and ask "Where are you guys???" Then I try to remember what someone looks like so I know them when I find them I'm terrible with face recognition and can walk by my own mother in a store and not "see" her. It's always good if someone wears a BN tag. I wear mine....I should put a note on it...if this person is lost send her back to the BN folks! If I walk by looking confused, just yell "OVER HERE NUTMEG!" Since it's been a year, you'll prolly have to introduce yourself as well. I have a hard time remembering the names of people I saw every day at Dow.

getting the liver in shape for July 21st. Just curious since I'm feeling old ("nostalgic" is the term we use nowadays I'm told...) when was your first trip to see Jimmy at Pine Knob? Mine was 1987.... Not sure that the park n ride was worried about us taking up spaces back then :)

First time was July 10th, 1978 at Pine Knob. His leg was in a full cast from his little baseball accident (these brittle bones don't bend). He talked about heading to Atlanta to record the live 'You had to be there' album - and the concert we heard was nearly identical to that album....including the full extended version of God's Own Drunk.

I was a season ticket holder back then...the Buffett concert was a special (really cheap) short notice offer sent out to season ticket holders. Regular series seats were about $8-9 each so the Buffett concert must have been maybe $5-7 for a pavillion seat. Ha! Wish I still had the stub.

You are correct that they didn't need to worry about any mob at the Park n Ride. In fact, the place was at most a third full. Part way into the concert he invited everyone on the lawn to come down and sit in the Pavilion....still didn't fill all the seats. Hard to imagine now, isn't it?

Even with so few people, it was still by far the best concert (by anyone) I had ever been to at that point. I dragged a friend to go along and remember telling her afterward, "Wow, that was fun, it felt like being at a private party instead of a concert!" The crowds are much bigger now but guess what? It still feels that way 33 years later.

I am totally bamboozled by the Pine Knob map for where you all park. Could someone just PM me their mobile so I can just call you on the way on Thurs? Be kind to first timers!
We were still going to Park n Ride (though we still don't know what time we should go) if anyone else is.
Sure did love the 'secret' entrance in the back of the Knob, though no treed area.

Jello shots...grrr. That's what made me super drunk last time! These girls came down from Grayling and pumped us full of em. Oh, they were tasty, for sure. But I fell backwards down the stairs going up the hill!
