The Lincoln Lawyer: What do you think?

Post by East Texas Parrothead »

What did ya'll think of The Lincoln Lawyer?

I've been a Michael Connelly fan for years. He really is a great guy. He's the one who donated the autographed copies of BLOODWORK for Vicki.

Am so happy to see him enjoying this kind of success.

His new Mickey Haller (The Lincoln Lawyer) book, THE FIFTH WITNESS, comes out next month. Got my hands on the galleys and it's great.

Big fan of the author and enjoyed the book, although I do prefer the Harry Bosch novels. As far as the movie, I haven't seen a movie in a theater in years, prefer to wait until it hits cable. But to be honest, I cannot picture Matthew Mc in the role. How was he?

I was so pleasantly surprised. He never crossed my mind while reading all the Mickey Haller books, but he was perfect. The terror that is the truth of this film was all over his face. He didn't have to take his shirt off to do the job, either. I believed him, especially in the courtroom.

And Marisa Tomei was incredible as Maggie McFierce. Can't wait to see her in the sequels ... and there will be sequels. Hollywood got it right this time. IMHO.

Even though I'm the arts editor for our newspaper, I rarely go to the movies, but I'm going BACK to see this one again. The film editing was very tight and worked to increase the tension ... the only weak link was Ryan Phillipe as the kid. Not for one minute did I believe him.

William Macy was fabulous in a small, but important role.

Haven't had time yet, but I want to see this one. And I average one movie in a theater per year, or less....

Same here. And I haven't read the book or even heard of the movie...until now. :) But I just now watched the trailer and it looks like one I'd like to see. Ryan Phillipe is one of the younger actors out there that I really do like though. I'm guessing by your comment ETP..he really did do it? :D

No spoiler here. McConaughey and Phillipe have both talked about it. Yes, he did it. And much, much more. 8)

To me, Phillipe is the weak link. I never believed him. Everyone else chews up the scenery. He's just kind like Bambi in the headlights. IMHO.

Look for Tomei's name to be called a lot at awards time. She is in-freaking-credible as Maggie McFierce ... the ex-wife/deputy DA. [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

Last one I saw in a theater was Star Trek (2009?)...

I would have NEVER cast McConaughey ... I'm not a fan.

I've read all the books, including the one set for release next month ... he never crossed my mind to play Mickey Haller.

Let me say this about that.

He IS Mickey Haller. 8)

I love Michael Connelly, and actually prefer Mickey Haller to Harry Bosch (btw, if you're a Newsweek reader, there's a nice bit in there about Lee Child, Micheal Connelly et al. and keeping a series interesting -- author gives kudos to Connelly for juggling a few series in order to take a break from a character every so often).

I liked the movie, and liked McConnaughey in the role. It was nice to see him in something besides the dumb romcoms he's been in lately. I think the movie was a little made-for-HBO-ish, but that's okay -- it's still way better than a lot of stuff out there.

Connelly will be at the LA Festival of Books at the end of April, as will a few other favorite LA noir authors (Robert Crais -- my favorite!), if you're in the area.

I think he was oustanding as an attorney in A Time to Kill with Samual L Jackson and Ashley Judd
