Thanksgiving is always at Mom and Dad's, and yes. Mom breaks out the good china and glasses.

Re: Thanksgiving
Since it'll just be my parents, youngest sister and me, we'll just use the everyday dishes.
The fact that we're probably the world's most IN-formal family, the good stuff very rarely gets used.
Later in the evening, I'm meeting some friends at the home of a female co-worker, and, knowing her, she'll probably use her good china and silverware.
No matter. I know it'll be a nice day all around, and I'll definately be counting my blessings for what I have, what I had, and being thankful that there are living humans on this planet willing to put MORE food into my fat belly.

I am headed to my Uncle's house this year and I can tell you that everything there (minus the beer) is always top shelf. They have always put out their fine china and waterford crystal for everyone
I thank the Lord for the people I have found

Re: Thanksgiving
We'll use the good dishes but we're having BBQ chicken because no one really likes turkey.
And this year it will be the Lenox......second time in 30 years.......

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Thanksgiving is spent with the in-laws and Christmas is with Dad's side of the family. But since Mom's folks are gone we don't spend Thanksgiving with the rest of that side of the family. And since we couldn't talk grandma into coming out, they'll be lucky if I put a shirt on.

Re: Thanksgiving
I honestly don't remember using fancy dinnerware. I suppose we did but I don't remember it. Of course the Cowboys started having a Tday game back in 1966 and that could be the reason why. All I know is that now I'm on the West coast it totally screws me up!!! I have to have the meal ready 2 hours earlier than I am used to!!Hockey Mon wrote:We are going to my parents this year. ). I'm not sure if I want to see my parents in sweatpants or pjs. We actually try to dress up a little. By dress up I mean nice (not faded) blue jeans or slacks and a shirt with buttons. And we use the nice stuff. I have vivid memories of being the one who fills up the fancy salt and pepper shaker.

Re: Thanksgiving
This is the first year since we've been married (25 years) that we haven't gone to my in-laws for the holiday.
Always real plates and nice clothes.
Going to my sisters house this year. Real plates and nice clothes....some things never change.
I've never had a Thanksgiving dinner here (well maybe when I was single...but it was just me and I don't remember what I did for plates) I don't own "china". I have regular and winter stoneware. The regular is Longaberger. The winter has chickadees and cardinals on it. The Chickadee and cardinal stuff is making its way out this week.

Re: Thanksgiving
We do that for Christmas Eve dinner after mass! Just us and the three grown kids. It's very formal in the dining room with silver, crystal and china......usually with crab, lobster and shrimp.......and all of us in our PJs.....ph4ever wrote:I was watching Lopez Tonight and Eva Mendes was on it talkinig about her family's Tday tradition - wearing your pajamas to tday meal. I don't cook much for Christmas Day except for a big breakfast.
