Dick Armey - Republican Parrothead
In other, strange news...
I saw a recent bio of Dick Armey, Member of The U.S. House of Representatives (R-Texas 1985-2003).
Back in 2001 the congressman wrote an article for Health Care News, titled "Just Gotta Learn From The Wrong Things You Done", which of course comes straight from Jimmy Buffett's immortal bitching song, Migration.
When questioned on television by Matt Lauer on NBC Today about the article, Congressman Armey explained that maybe we (America) ought to stop listening to Warren Buffett and start listening to Jimmy Buffett and learn from the dumb things we've done. Lauer then lightheartedly challenged the congressman on whether or not he was really a Parrothead. Dick Armey immediately responded, "Absolutely. Both Mrs Armey and I are longtime Parrotheads. And if you don't believe me, let me just tell you, My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink and I Don't Love Jesus."
At that point, Lauer was either confused or convinced because he quickly moved to the next topic.

There are more than a few of us that may not agree with Jimmy's political views, but his music is outstanding.

Agree, as long as the music isn't political in nature, I love it. "A Lot to Drink About" encroaches on it, but I still think it is fun song despite the conservative bashing that goes on throughout it.CayoHueso217 wrote:There are more than a few of us that may not agree with Jimmy's political views, but his music is outstanding.

I dislike "A LOT TO DRINK ABOUT" because of the conservative bashing.
"Millionaires losing everything-welcome to the other side of life"?
WHO THE HELL IS JIMMY BUFFETT TO WELCOME THEM TO THE "OTHER SIDE OF LIFE"?
When. pray tell, was the last time HE experienced the other side of life?
Sorry, I don't find it amusing to make light of those who've lost everything they've earned from years of hard work.
Maybe if Jimmy lost everything HE has, Bill Gates could welcome him to the other side of life.
I love Jimmy as a person and DEARLY love (most of) his music, but that line in that song was a poor choice of words.
Just as I'm sure those who've lost their jobs and/or assets don't find it amusing.
I didn't meant to hijack this thread. I also read somewhere a while ago that Dick Armey is a parrothead. as is Jeb Bush (former governor of Florida) and John Kasic (former Ohio congressman). I'm sure there are several others.

I think Jimmy was speaking for others and not refering to himself. It's what song writers do.
However the song does blow regardless.
And Garry you sure do party liberally

I'm a libertarian leaning Republican Parrothead.
We do exist.
I don't think we're rare, either.
(I've also taken grief from other John Denver fans who say no conservative can ever be a "true" JD fan. To that I say, "&^*$ off, I'll listen to who I wanna listen to"
)

That is pretty lame of someone to say about JD. Not a big fan of him, but he did put out some decent stuff.bestseller92 wrote:I'm a libertarian leaning Republican Parrothead.

On the flip side, I kind of say the same thing about U2, such that how could any self-respecting conservative or right-leaning person listen to U2.

Eh, I know liberals who love Ted Nugent.
It's music.
I'm not a U2 fan myself, but that just has to do with the music, which is not my cup o'RedDiamond.
I do like that song Bono wrote for Roy Orbison, though. Roy knocked "She's a Mystery to Me" outta the park.

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

I find Dick Armey to be a raving lunatic who's TeaBag Parties teeter on the racist edge of "sanitized" Ku Klux Klan principles.
..and he's free to like the music of anyone he pleases.
But, I'll bet ya' Jimmy would have some choice words (and swift legal action) if he ever learned
his music was being played at any of the Dick's wienie roasts

Well, OF COURSE he's a racist. That's what the "R" after his name means.Lightning Bolt wrote:I find Dick Armey to be a raving lunatic who's TeaBag Parties teeter on the racist edge of "sanitized" Ku Klux Klan principles.
DUH!
No he's not...and he's free to like the music of anyone he pleases.
Only Democrats & liberals are allowed to like Jimmy Buffett.
Didn't you hear-Jimmy told all Republicans and conservatives to give him a written estimate on how much they've spent on his concerts, records/C.D.s, tee shirts, etc, over the years, and he's promised to give them a full and unconditional refund.
He'd have some choice words, allright. But, I'll bet ya' Jimmy would have some choice words (and swift legal action) if he ever learned

He'd say "THANK YOU FOR THE PUBLICITY AND THE $$$$$.
