False Echoes knocked me off my chair the first time i heard it, blew me away. I'm not sure if all these songs are sad, they usually don't put me in a sad mood, but a lot of the lyrics you can pluck out and relate to.

Coast of Marseilles has to be one of my favorite songs ... such lines as "would you be remembering me ----- answer came and haunted me so" and "spent all the money i saved, still did not get over you"

Others would be:
"He went to paris",
"death of an unpopular poet",
"Lovely Cruise",
"In the Shelter",
"If the phone doesn't ring it's me",
"I heard i was in town",
"Island" and
"Little Miss Magic" always reminds me of my little niece

They may not be sad in and of themselves, but "The Christian" and "The Missionary" surely paint a sad picture of society.

West Nashville Grand Ballroom Gown.

....Mama I'm fine if ya happen to wonder, I don't have much money but I still get around. I haven't made church in near 36 Sundays, so •••• all those West Nashville Grand Ballroom Gowns.

.....And she's a long way from the West Nashville Grand Ballroom Gown.

no particular order....

She's Going Out Of My mind
Remittance Man
California Promises
Survive

but #1-#2 have to be Captain and the Kid and False Echoes; can't get much more personal than that. Great songs both of them but often times I can't even listen to them because they're (too) easy to identify with....

I would have to agree with the person who wrote the saddest song (not written) would be "No summer Tour"...I've been going to Buffett concerts since I was about 14 years old and I'm approaching 40 fast...so I would really be "sad" not to see him this summer. I guess some things do change and that's life I suppose!

I WOULD DEFINATELY AGREE THAT "NOBODY SPEAKS TO THE CAPTAIN NO MORE" IS BY FAR THE SADDEST BUFFETT SONG EVER WRITTEN AND RECORDED, IT MAKES ME CRY EVERY TIME I HEAR IT. OTHER THAN THAT ALL OF HIS OTHER SONGS MAKE ME JUST WANT TO PULL OUT THE BLENDER AND FORGET ALL MY PROBLEMS (TEMPORARILY ANYWAY)

He Went to Paris......."looking for answers to questions that bothered him so".

Also happens to be my favorite Buffett song if forced to name one.

NOBODY SPEAKS TO THE CAPTAIN NO MORE IS BY FAR THE SADDEST SONG EVER WRITTEN BY THE MAYOR OF MARGARITAVILLE, IT MAKES ME WANT TO JUMP OFF A CLIFF EVERY TIME I HEAR IT. HOWEVER MOST OF THE OTHER SONGS MENTIONED DON'T COME ACROSS AS SAD TO ME, I SUPPOSE IT IS ALL IN THE WAY YOU INTERPRET THE LYRICS.

I almost have to completely agree with Capt.K. Although California Promises and If the Phone Doesn't Ring It's Me are my two top choices!
