I knew this girl made of memories and phrases, who lived her whole life in both chapters and stages.
Danced 'til the dawn, wished all her worries away.
She's a long way from a West Nashville grand ballroom gown.

Agreed, I don't need no stinkin' over-priced "group" tour........surfpirate wrote:Ditto. And my effin' good time tour won't have "Sing-alongs"maid memories wrote:Give me five grand (based on double occupancy) of your money to blow and I'll show you an effing fantastic time in the Keys, too.

Part of the fun of visiting Key West is doing some research before hand, then just taking off on your own to explore and enjoy........and you can do it for much less than $2,500/person!

$2500 was our budget for both of us to spend 9 days traveling through South Florida and the Keys.

Re: FL Keys / Key West
Hi Friends - Just wanted to share a hotel deal for members of the armed services, fire and rescue, law enforcement, or medical personnel in Duck Key.
Hawks Cay Island Resort has a special called "Heroes Welcome". They offer a $99.00 rate for weekdays, $129.00 for weekends or if you stay 3 nights ($99 for both weekdays & weekends). They do charge a $25 a day resort fee but this place is swanky. If you like a little luxury in the Keys this is a nice spot. Carol, Dave, Chris & I stayed here two years ago and it was beautiful but Chris prefers more of a fishing village setting..

Re: FL Keys / Key West
Many "resorts" charge this and it is a amenities fee collected at check-in, which covers all guest services and housekeeping gratuities, wireless Internet, transportation throughout the Resort, self and valet parking, access to the Indies Club and Calm Waters Fitness Center, local and toll free phone calls, and additional seasonal inclusions, etc. etc. They also are connected to a Dolphin Rescue/research facility ..so if that type of thing doesn't bother you there are dolphins to watch.Rabbitz wrote:What is a "$25 a day resort fee"?
Re: FL Keys / Key West
probably a silly question (and yes I will also ask our live in Key West pholks)
is there a shuttle/van/taxi service that will drive a group up then down the Keys?
it would be great to "do" the Keys and not have to worry about a DD.

Re: FL Keys / Key West
Planning our next visit to KW in July. Staying at the Tropical Inn, our favorite. We always like to stop along the Overseas Hyw. for lunch on our way down. Did Alabama Jacks in 2011, No Name Pub in 2012. I was reading James W. Hall's "Buzz Cut". He mentions Mangrove Mama's on Sugarloaf Key. Any feedback or other suggestions for a lunch break before we check in?
