Alan Young aka Wibur Post dead at 96

Sail On Alan.

Although I never knew him, I felt a genuine pang of sadness and loss when I read the news today.

I suppose it was a reaction to losing a small piece of my childhood.

Mr Ed, Petticoat Junction, Beverly Hillbillies, Gilligan's Island, Get Smart and the like, were cheap, poorly acted and would not see the light of day in today's market.

Which is a pity, as the happy, naive feeling they project is somewhat missing amongst "The Walking Dead" or "Game of Thrones" and all the reality crap on the crystal bucket these days.

It might be nostalgic, but I remember getting home in the arvo and settling in for a great big slice of Americana via the trusty old, oft repeated, diet of afternoon TV...

I remember seeing him in the 1960 version of "The Time Machine" and thinking "That's Wilbur Post!"
He also did the voice of Scrooge McDuck and other characters. :pirate:
