Manatee-cam

Post by Y-NO-9-O »

Ok, so technically it has nothing to do with Jimmy. But in keeping with his Save The Manatee campaign here is a live manatee-cam.

Wow! there is so many of them! at first I thought they were dolphins.
Still, it's all a mystery,
This place we call the world
Most are fine as oysters
While some become pearls

The greater Tampa plant has manatee cams as well, although they are not as cool as that one!

We went there when we got bumped from our flight in March, it was really cool!

I am guessing there isn't allot to see at night - but I will check this tomorrow.

One of my top experiences ever was swimming with the manatees at Crystal River. WOW - can't even describe these gentle sea cows. We were in a hot spring area with lots of babies - awesome. I could have stayed all day.

There's nothing in Tampa, but there are herds (?) in the Miami cam.

Poor things.....they're probably cold and are looking for a warm wash of water. :(

Prolly can't post on a family site what the locals told us to do to "get warm" when you go into cold water....but I am thinking all of the scuba divers know what I mean. (Dean?) :o :-? 8)

Suffice to say the water was cold - esp. the longer we were in it....but the cold water and getting up that early was still worth swimming with these wonderful creatures!!!! I would do it again. (BUT definately get the Rx swim masks next time).

Wow! They are beautiful. I'll bet they are trying to keep warm.

I'll never forget the first time I saw one as a little girl ... I just could not believe how BIG yet seemingly gentle it was.

Sometimes I see me as an old manatee
Heading south as the waters grow colder

Manatees gather in the warm water discharged from the Florida Power and Light Riviera Beach power plant into the Intracoastal Waterway. The cold weather has threatened native species like manatees and turtles.
